IS there a fireware upgrade to enable my NEC ND-1100A to read Verbatim DVD+R DL DVD's?

I haven't seen any firmware hacks that will enable dual layer burning.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I don't want to burn a dual layer DVD, I just want the NEC ND-1100A to play them.

Do you have a recorded Verbatim DVD+R DL that it doesn't play?

amandamp,

Dumb question. Does your NEC ND-1100A drive play commercial DVD-9 movies? If so, your drive may have a problem with the Verbatim +R dl discs or as stated before it could be a bad burn. Does the disc play on a stand alone? A lot a variables here.

I wouldn't want to F*ck any of the Kerry's. I've got some standards

the dual layed disc was burnt on a NEC ND-2510A, the disc plays on all my set top DVD players as well as a Philips DVDRW228 and the 2510A so I don't think it's a bad burn. The 1100A will play any disc I throw into it whether burnt media or store bought DVD, just not the dual layer.

I am starting to lean towards "a drive that is older, whose circuitry is older and that the manufacturer will no longer spend the money to provide upgrades to the firmware" so that it can play DL discs burned on newer drives.

That every other drive will play the disc is good. That the NEC ND-1100A drive will play eveything except that disc, not so bad. It is an older drive. It is not completely useless. You can still use it for data, viewing of regular DVD's, etc.

If it was state of the art when you bought it, I feel your pain. The NEC 1300a I paid over $200 USD for over a year ago can't hold a candle to what I can get for $80 USD~ these days.

Such is the world of computers & software.
