mds file is for other burning programs that are unable to burn iso's, basicly acts as a set of instructions. If you have a FAT32 hardrive you can set the iso to be split at 1gb or less size (Tools-Settings-ISO Read Mode) in which case you would burn the MDS file with your burner and that file puts it back together

Deadcat,
Followup questions on your reply since I was planning to try decrypter and shrink on one of my P3 WIN98 machines. Currently that computer is set up with the 321 products - XCopy, Xpress, and Platinum ...
Is the max file size 1GB using FAT32 for the decrypter MDS file to work? I thought FAT32 max file size was 2GB.
With FAT32 and Win98, can you use decyrpter to rip a DVD-9, shrink to reduce ISO image to fit on one disk, and then burn with decrypter? This approach works with NTFS on a P4 using WinXP Pro.
Thanks for any advice.

Grampaw,
For FAT32, keep your single files under 4GB. When using FAT32, use file mode. You can have a movie over 4GB's and be successful in burning.

The mds file is an alcohol 120% file and it is a little set of instructions for that burning program. If you want to use Alcohol 120 to burn your dvd. You can turn this feature off in settings and it will not create one, just the iso file. I would leave the iso splitting to the default settings, my hard drive is ntfs, and if you have a newer operating system yours probably is to. I have used alcohol to burn the iso to dvd if its under 4.36GB and it works fine, but so will the write mode in decrypter.

Yes the new decrypter by default creates an mds fle, along with the iso.

Kewl! I never used Decryptor much (always been a SmartRipper man myself) .... there's a potential for a lot of confusion with that MDS file isnt there? Wonder why they would need a MDS file for the ISO -- ISO is "standard" afterall. Odd.

Its 4gb, but the way decrytper works, is either 1gb split, 700mb split down to what ever, or select auto

Which setting do you select to have DD NOT create an MDS file?
