That is like asking People if they think you got a good car and you tell them you drive a 2004 Rolls Royce. Question you already have an answer too.

BTW the answer is ... unfortunately ... NO. The 9800 series of cards seems to have superior core specs in virtually every category.

That is hard to believe, I do believe you though. I wonder why the 9800 cards are kicking the new generation X series cards asses? What about the stats on the Nvidia 6800? Are the ATi 9800 out doing it also? Maybe it has something to do with the PCI-Express or something, new technology just starting out and all, maybe they are weaker cards on a higher format or something? I dunno. Kinda cool the 9800 series are still hanging in there strong. People are quick to sell something out before they know all the facts I guess. Maybe they jumped on the new generation cards bandwagon before it even had a chance to show the world what it can really do, talk is cheap , the proof is in the pudding along with perfomance to back it. The way it sounds the 9800 is performing, and the new series of cards have the public drooling over the cool box and the fact it's new.

The X800 is the real deal and runs neck and neck with the 6800. The new mid/low range cards from ATI don't look like much from the specs but we'll just have to wait and see what they can do.

No need to believe me. You can check for yourself!

Either very bad or very good marketing strategy, we'll have to wait to see how it turns out

Not likely. With the much lower performance of the budget-midrange cards I doubt they'll come close to saturating half of their theoretical speed cap.

Argueable that the nVidia chip is superior (even if it's slower which i wont get into) .... the 6800 has support for Shader 3.0 while ATi's flagship is "way back" at 2.0 .... not much of a real world difference (until the next gen games come out) but just an oddity that ATi didnt "step up"

I don't know how much truth is in Benchmarks..Checked out Tom's Hardware site, and they were comparing these cards. Praetor, the post I just made before this one is blank I know...I tried to copy and paste what I saw on Tom's Hardware site, but it didn't work. Don't know how to copy and paste things to these post for others to view. I copy and then when I get to where I am at now I paste it and I get nothing????

An oddity indeed but just how much of a difference it'll make and how soon titles will implement pixel shader 3 remains to be seen :)

Very true and short of Doom3 I dont think there will be much in terms of realworld advantages in performance (there is a noted advantage in the lifespan of the card given that support however).

that sounds like a buyer who has no idea what they bought. you can buy the most exensive new hardware...and it still is crap compared to older more popular hardware. take the FX5200...i consider that a pretty sorry GPU...but it sure is hot right now for new teens wanting to get into gaming. thats the most effective marketing i have seen excluding the "SE" and "LE" model cards.

you can never tell on online forums if someone is REALLY that dumb...or they just think its funny to act like it. either way i would have to say if your going to spend time typing it, it might as well be serious...or at least funny to someone besides yourself.

Okay, let me point this out. WHAT THE HELL? IS THAT GUY CRAZY? A GeFORCEFX5200! HA!

For the real point. The X series for ATI is actually awesome! The speed is incredible. The Nvidia Cards, though, are good, and are considerably faster, but PCI Express has ought to get even better. From the Benchmarks, Nvidia was cheating, and so was ATI, but only temperarly. I have an ATI Radeon 9600xt, and it's amazing. I get average 60 frame rates per second in Halo, and it goes above lots of times. My PC sucks, but my games are pretty fast.

Stick to it, your not making a bad choice. Price, well, that's something else. Try to find it as cheap as you can.

Also, for new video card users, never buy a GeForceFX 5600 or lower (well, maybe 5600). Also, never buy an ATI Radeon 9200 or lower, or ATI Radeon SE or LE edition cards. Always get original, XT, or Pro.

PC been Bios Flashed, and Formatted (so no more compaq)
1.4 ghz AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (ugh)
ATI Radeon 9600 xt 120 MB (joy)
80 Gig HardDrive (joy, well, yeah...)
Direct X 8.1 Surround Sound AC'97 Sound Card (er...)
24x Cd Burner, 48x CD Reader (er...)

Not everyone has $10000 in their left coat pocket.

If you're talking about the X800 yea. Anything else you should go back and check the specs again.

Nothing is close to beginning to saturate AGP8X steady so PCIX is a on-paper advantage. Much like nVidia's support for Pixel Shader 3.0 and ATI's lack of it.

Benchmarks can swing either way you know... visit ATI's site and then visit nVidia's site.

Yes but consider that not everyone has a CC so ebay would be a difficult endevour. Like me for instance, I want a CC with a $100 cap but they wont give me one (bastards) so i dont use a CC.

Also, dont forget that after forking out several hundred dollars for mobo, ram, hdd, proc and stuff, forkin out $100-$200 for a video card isnt neccesarily on everyone's top ten list. I'm not sayin you're outright wrong or nothin and I'd reccomend the same thing ... just adding some perspective (from very personal experience at that).
