AVI to DVD no sound

Hi,
I am trying to convert to DVD as per the afterdawn guide and get good video but no sound. I demuxed the ac3 track with VirtualDubMod and then authored the DVD with IFOedit 0.96 but I dont get a peep even with the AV amp up full. I seem to remember seeing something about IFOedit and XP not working together, could this be the prob?
I have a feeling that I am not the first to have this problem but cant find a reference to it

BTW does anyone know if there is software to read a .ac3 file?
