Hi network help needed, I recently bought a new computer for my self. I try connecting it to my cable modem and the internet works fine. I understand that if I want my older comp to be on the internet I need to buy a router. But i'm really clueless about this stuff. So help me pros.
1) should I get wireless router? I heard people can jack my connection, plus i heard that it is slower than wired router. but it would look better and easier without wire.
2) What brand do you recommend?
3) is it hard to set up?
thx in advance for any help -chimp-

I'd reccomend a decently priced Linksys, D-link or SMC router ... they work well and are cost effective. Unless you have specific requirenments for wireless, no need to invest in it yet

ASUS A8V Deluxe, A64-3500 @ 2.65
1GB KingMax PC3700

Thats a good router. As for cabling, buy what you need (lengthwise)

Chimp, if your are thinking about getting a laptop, where you want to use it anywhere in your house, you can get the Linksys WRT54G. It is a wireless, and it works very well. You can use it, hardwired to 2 or more desktop computers, along with the laptop, also.

Life is good!
