Hey, I believe CCE SP is the winner for quality but, just thought i would like to ask, sorry if i start a pissing contest.

EDIT:I was just wondering, what is the best (Price is no issue) Encoder that you can get?

CCE SP is the best you can get, however that also depends on your knowledge of what you're doing. I started with SP and I was forced to learn a lot in the process just to have a clue what I was doing. As far as a comparison between TMPGEnc and CCE SP, CCE (even Basic) will give you higher quality, faster encodes. With SP you can also do things like making extra passes (may or may not matter - depends on who you ask), doing everything with high quality in 1 pass (one of my favorite features), use custom quantization matrices, manually set I frames at specific spots, and tweak bitrate distribution for additional passes. As you can probably see already, the tradeoff is that you need to know how to use those features. The other problem many people have with CCE in general is that you can't open an MPEG file directly with it, and using AviSynth to frameserve looks difficult (it's not) so it can be very intimidating.

I only have a little familiarity with using TMPGEnc, but it does have a wizard based interface available, will open MPEG files, and the basics are generally easier to learn. At one time it had the additional advantage of being far cheaper than CCE, but since CCE Basic came out that's not really true. It's still cheaper, but not by that much.

I've always used TMPGEnc to convert Divx files to VOB files.
I was thinking of starting learning CCE.
The quality I get in a two pass with TMPGEnc is more than what I need, so my question is:

What's the time difference in encoding the same movie with both programs? is it that different?

When I played with DVD2SVCD over a year ago, I started with TMPGEnc until I could get the college I worked at to buy CCE SP and I found CCE to be twice as fast. Since they use the same encoding engine, CCE Basic is just as fast as CCE SP.
