I tried to copy a copy (full DVD) but I encounter problems - Shrink and Copy2One wouldn't do it, and as last resort I even tried Decrypter - no success.
The copy is made by Xcopy Express and I try to copy it (full) from my burner (the copy is playing just fine on the computer or any DVD player.
Any idea as to what the problem might be?
Thanks.

what media is it on? And what do you mean you encounter problems, is there an error message?

itsmekev,
If you use Nero Recode 2 it will copy discs made with XCopy Express or Platinum with no problems, ive recopied many discs I made before 321 Gone appeared on the scene, because you can remove unwanted stuff.ive given very scant details in reply to your post on another thread, did not want to double post here.

Thank you, Sly and Ipsy, for your replies.

Sly - I don't know what media is used since the gut who made the copy placed a sticker on it so I can't tell who the maker is. Yes, there are error messages - I'll try it again at home and post the exact error messages.

Ipsy - I'd like to try Recode 2. I understand that Nero 6 doesn't include Recode 2, and I have to get it.

Sly,

Shrink

Error message:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read "E:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOB"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

By the way, it happened about after 3 quarters of the movie copied.

DVD2ONE

When I try to use DVD2One (v. 1.40) I immediately get the following:
"dvd2one has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience"

Unfortunately I see quite often this kind of error messages regarding other applications, and I yet have to call tech support and see what's wrong.

DVD Decrypter
The message (appears right away):
I/O error!
Device: (3:0:0) Sony DVD RW DW-U18A USY1 (E:)
ScsiStatus:0X02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB: 28 00 00 1C 0F 93 00 00 01 00
Interpretation: Read (10)- Sector:1838995

Interpretation: Unrecovered Read Error

I wonder if any of all this would shed light on the problem, but I'd love to hear from you...

The errors that Shrink and Decrypter are giving you are usually caused by dirt or damage on the disc you are trying to copy. If the disc is completely clean and damage free, then the data on it is corrupt. Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying.
The data on the disc is not corrupted since the movie plays fine on DVD players. Maybe it's somewhat dirty for the copying purposes. I'll give it a nice shine... :-)

just because the movie plays fine doesn't mean some of the data isn't corrupted. Dvd players have error correction, dvd-rom drives don't.

You don't own the original. You didn't make the original backup. This would be piracy ... and isn't allowed.

Dear Flip,

I hope you didn't lose sleep over the fact that I don't own the movie. After all it's not allowed (how eloquent) and I might be be the first one on this forum to break the law and make a copy of a rental...

Nah, no one would do that, would they?

Relax, dude - I didn't copy the movie for my own use (I would never do such thing - piracy is not allowed). I simply wanted to see if Shrink or other prog can make a copy of a copy (in case my original goes bad and I want to back up my only copy). I hope this info put you at ease and you can keep patrolling AfterDwan to reprimand those who - how dare they - might think of ...urrr... piracy.

Sly,

I hear you loud and clear, and your reply makes lots of sense.

Thanks for replying.

Don't worry I won't :)

If this were true ... why not use your own backups to test. The title of this thread is copy a copy. Then you state it's not your backup. And it's not just piracy, but also the discussion of piracy.

I'm not patrolling, I'm browsing :) ... and only the MOD's reprimand. Take mine as a friendly reminder.

Now as for your crc error ... Your problem is most likely the media used. You can still check the manufacturer of the disc if you have Nero, even though there is a label on it. You can use Nero's info tool.

Last ... Nero's disc copy, Shrink, DVDXRescue should all work, if the source is able to be read and ripped

My good man Flip,

See, even you can make a constructive contribution to this thread once you take off your lawyer's robe (but please stay fully dressed, for God sake).

I could answer your questions, but it will take us nowhere and will serve no one.

All being said, thanks for the useful info.

By the way, I ran Nero Info but it wouldn't tell who's the disc manufacturer.

I had that when I was trying Princo discs. Nero Info Tool said manufacture id 001. Gave no name, and I think Princo's are poor quality media.

I would remove the label first! If it is not perfectly centered or ballanced, the vibration will cause read errors. After you clean the disc, Nero copy should work fine.
