Dual layer DVD... Are they worth the headaches?

So, I've been trying to reduce the size of my dual layer dvd so that it fits on 1 blank...

Just a couple general questions...

Has anyone had any success?
Is the quality up to par?
Is it worth the encoding time?
Is a better option just to split on 2 blanks?

- Yes... allways

- It depends on movies lenght(size) ... could be ... or not

"Is it worth the encoding time?"
- Yes if you use CCE and Robshot method or just 4 X VBR

"Is a better option just to split on 2 blanks?"
- Yes if you don't mind changeing the disks...

Dual layer dvd well worth it, use mad bit rate to calculate size, then rempeg to shrink, 6 hours later Very good copy. Done Titanic, lord rings and more all went well

Spliting creates a whole new set of nightmares. I find that re-encoding the video is the best option. You can squeeze a lot of video on a DVD and keep the quality pretty high if you're willing to sacrifice the 5.1 soundtrack for the stereo. Those few hundred extra megs will be well spent.
