So, I backed up some MP3 files onto a DVDR using, I think, Roxio. When I went to put them back on my newly formatted drive, I couldn't copy and paste them. I kept getting a CRC error. Now, isn't cyclic redundancy not always accurate. By that I mean doesn't it prevent you from using a file that might be unnoticibly corrupt or slightly damaged in transit? Is there any way I can retrieve my data? The files worked perfectly before sending them to the DVD. Thanks

I think there is little you can do now. But try to read it on another CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive, on another system. This may override any disc faults.

Also I would like to ask you, did you check if the disc was playing OK when you first burnt your disc, before you format your disc? That is, did you verify that the data was written OK?

Yeah, I tried another dvd-rom but nadda. No, I didn't verify all the files before formatting becuase there were hundreds and hundreds of them. I checked a few and they were fine so I assumed the disc burned correctly. The wierd thing is, the dvdr says its just about full to capacity, so it recognizes that the files are on there. It just won't access them. Thanks though.

Well, I have used all sorts of data recovery software on this DVD-R, not ready to let go. Actually, what I didn't mention before was that its not just 1 disc, its 4 in fact - 15+gb worth - not easy to replace. Yesterday morning, I stumbled across ISOBuster so I gave it a try. Not only did it recover every lost file right from the DVDRs, but it took like 8 minutes to do it. I've been trying to get these back for over a year now. Thanks for all your help, especially you doof, considering had I not stumbled across ISOBuster yesterday, you would have just hooked me up with the answer.
