Is my burner fried?

I have a Lite-on LDW-411s that has stopped reading blank dvd media. When I try to burn with Nero or any other program the blank media just spins and spins and is never recognized by the drive. It will still burn cdr media though. I have tried flashing the drive to the latest firmware, unistalling the drive updateing ASPI and still having this problem. I think it might be toasted! Staples has a burner on sale for $49 after rebate, it's an I/O Magic 8X, that I am thinking of picking up to replace the Lite-on if I can't get this figured out. Is the I/O Magic a decent enough brand. I burn mostly DVD-R because my protable Audiovox won't play +R. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
