Does anybody know about the special that newegg.com is offering on RITEK media? After rebate they are offering RITEKs for .40 a piece in packs of 100. According to the review they are RICOHJPN types.

I bought a 100-pack of the Ritek DVD+R (RICOHJPN01 I think) a couple of weeks ago from newegg.com when they were $59.99 less the $10 rebate. So far I've burned maybe a dozen & they're all perfect. Now the same ones are on sale for $49.99 less the $10 rebate (which I think you can only get once) so I just ordered more.

Don't know if you're looking for DVD+R or DVD-R, but Riteks are usually great media (as I learned on these forums). So far I've had 100% burn rates with Riteks from newegg and supermediastore.com (which were $62 for 100 when I bought them a month or two ago -- the prices keep dropping!!).

Karen H.--Dell Optiplex GX240, P4 1.50ghz, 256mb RAM (yeah, I need more), Windows XP Pro w/SP1, 80gb c: drive (replaced the 20gb c: that crashed), 126gb i: drive, 124gb j: drive, 500gb external hard drive partitioned into k: and l: drives, Sony DDU1621/C1 DVD-ROM to rip/encode, Sony DRX-530UL to burn, new Sony DRX-840U to burn DL discs ... need a new computer to go with it!!

I don't know if it is my drive or the media but I have had problems with the RITEK G04 types from both supermediastore.com and meritline.com. If I go above 4.2gigs, I start having problems. My drive worked fine with both VERBATIMs and FUJIs which were really RICOH types. I figure though at .40 a pop, I can afford some bad burns.

Nephilim explains the Ritek/Ridata/Ricoh issue really well on this thread. I bought a 100 of them and used about 40 and no coasters, and have another 100 on the way. Sometimes Ritek has their discs make for them by Ricoh such as their 2.4X.

I've been using the +R largely because my plextor seems to really like them. Could you check the manufaturers ID on the -R's, just curious.

They should be getting here tomorrow. I have a lot of DVDs that need burned because I'm running out of hard drive space, so I'll be using them as soon as possible. If they get here early enough I'll let you know tomorrow. Otherwise it won't be until at least Sunday when I get back from a camping trip.

DVD Info Pro:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

Look through the help file and you'll find out how to look at the DVD manufacturer's code. You should also look at the Speed Test feature as it's good for checking discs for errors after burning.
