Well first off, edit your post and remove your Nero registration number.

This is a bit different. I have never seen these lines in a Nero log:

Start sector number of the current Border-Out: 0 h
Start sector number of the next Border-In: 0 h

and:

Book Type request: DVD-ROM
Changing the book type was finish with error code: 0

Might be a good idea to check your settings. Now I don't normally burn disc images so I am not exactly sure what the settings should be.

Just curious, how are your drives connected?

hi,

thank you for pointing the registration number out to me. i was not really thinking straight from frustration.

this happens anytime i try to burn a dvd w/a ritek gold disk (aren't these supposed to be the best?). this problem isn't exclusive to .img files, it happens w/any dvd I try to backup.

my setup is as following:

primary master= 160gb hd
primary slave= 160gb hd

secondary master= dvd burner

the other cd rom drive is a virtual drive w/daemon tools. in other words, it doesn't really exist physically.

thank you for your reply.

I've had Nero 6 for quite some time and have had various odd failures with it, generally caused by me moving things around in explorer, adding or removing disc drives or just not selecting the correct set up.

If it looks like the program was set correctly, then just remove and reinstall the program. Do a complete removal and reboot. Then download a fresh .exe from Nero. This works most of the time. You can also use these Nero utilitys:

http://www.nero.com/us/631938356417810.html

I have great success with the Ritek G-04 discs, however it is always possible to get a bad batch, I suppose. Your log file didn't really give an indication of bad media though. You can always try something different. Testing and troubleshooting with a DVD RW will keep you from making coasters as well.

I forgot to ask, but have you ever burned successfully?

Try burning a VIDEO_TS folder instead of an .img file just so we can see how that compares to mine. If you don't mind. Preferably after a reinstallation of Nero.

hi frank,

thanks for your ongoing effort.

in answer to your question: yes, i have burned successfully before, but w/other media, never w/this ritek media. i have tried both video ts and .img and have no success w/the ritek media. weird, maybe i'll go back to the older version of Nero. i have already tried the total removal and fresh reinstall of Nero to no avail.

thank you,

Wow three serial numbers!

Gotta give me a while to go through these logs....I think I'm going blind. BTW, It is always great to try and help folks out here at AD but Nero has customer support too. You paid for the program and the support comes with the price, so why not try it? They made the program so they ought to know how to fix it.

They won't release a guide explaining what all the stuff in the log files mean. They have a very basic guide at their website thats about useless.

Anyhow, let me look at it...

rick,

That's a Nero burn log, Shrink is using Nero to burn your disc.
Well if your Plexor is working and the NEC is not I'd say you need to do a firmware upgrade. I checked a bit and find that your current firmware (1.05) is a bit old...I think. Hopefully a 1300 user will see this and tell me if this is correct.

BTW rick, and anyone else that reads this:

PMs shouldn't be used for questions that can be answered on the forums. Even if I say something stupid or you disagree, its OK to say it here. As long as it pertains to the subject of the thread then this is where it belongs.
The reason for this rule is to keep folks like myself from getting 300 e mails a day. Besides, you sure want other folks input as well as I do. Its not like I don't make mistaks and chances are if its out in view, someone will catch it.

itsmeek,
Before you give up, try those utilitys. I fixed the link so it should work. Try doing a simulated burn and see if it still fails.

Hi itsmeek,

Well I suppose thats one way to fix it. To me, it's like having something wrong with your car so you replace the car. Pretty much takes care of the problem without fixing the original issue.

Rick,

Are you still getting this:
5:36:30 PM #24 CDR -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
Power calibration error

Heres an exerpt from Nero concerning Power Calbration Problems:

23. I get a power calibration error. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder. Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). And during the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC). This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

So, when you receive the "Power Calibration Error" or "Power Calibration Area full" error message, then the cause will be either poor media, poor Power, or a defective Recorder.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

1) A might enable the OPC on this medium

2) Try another brand of CDR or CDRW media.

3) Also try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If this occurs with an External recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. Take the recorder out of the external chassis, and connect it internal, as a test.

4) Try different configurations, such as taking the CDROM to the Primary IDE bus as Slave, and have only the recorder connected to the Secondary IDE bus as Master.

5) Send the recorder in for Service.

(I have no idea what #1 means)
Another thing to do is clean your drive. You can buy cleaning kits at electronics and computer stores.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I'm just sorry I could not help you get Nero 6 working.

BTW congratulations, I wish the two of you the best!

Cheers,
Frank

Frank,

I'm here looking around precisely because I can't get decent support from Nero. About two weeks ago, I bought an upgrade from 5.5 to Nero6. I'm unable to burn a DVD above 2.4x, and tried to get help from Nero. It takes four days turnaround each time I write to Nero support to get an answer back. Their two suggestions so far have failed. I finally gave them an ultimatum to either provide reasonably timely support, or I'd dispute the charge for the upgrade with my card company. After another 4 days without an answer, I disputed the charge, the card company reversed it tentatively, and I went back to my registered copy of Nero 5.5. Unfortunately, I'm still having problems getting 5.5 to write above 2.4x on Ritek G0-4 disks, too.

Nero support is pretty sucky right now, and I for one can't wait for what has already taken two weeks just to receive three emails from them throughout our exchange.

Thanks. I've not read about any problems with these disks. I've had the same problem with the four "Newegg" branded disks that came with the burner, although they look like they could be Ritek blanks, too. I'll try something else.
