I'm using DVD Shrink, which I have always used and had great success with. I've tried to rip S&H twice and before it will finish it stops and gives me an IO copy protection error. Is this a new problem with some newly released dvd's? How can I get around this?

sometimes DVD Shrink will come across a dvd that it cant crack , dont know why .
try this install DVD Decrypter and rip your dvd in file mode .
now open shrink and select open files.
locate the files DVD Decrypter has ripped.
now the file shrink needs is the VIDEO_ts folder.
load that into shrink and away you go.

it is rare DVD Shrink cant crack a dvd , but then all is not lost because DVD Decrypter usually saves the day

Is it a Copy Protection error or CRC error?

If you get a "Copy Protection Error" when using DVD Shrink with Nero, please try some or all of the following:

Try playing the DVD for a few seconds with your software player (WinDVD, PowerDVD, Etc...), pause it, then start the DVD Shrink process.

Try un-checking "Enable burning with Nero" in the "Edit >> Preferences >> File I/O" menu.
You will still be able to burn your backups with Nero manually as usual. It doesn't matter that Nero is not burning when you get that error. Just having it enabled can cause that error on many computers. It has to do with the way that DVD Shrink and the Nero interact.

Try ripping the DVD to the hard disk drive first with DVD Decrypter.

Try opening Nero before using DVD Shrink.

Try using region-free software like DVD43, AnyDVD or DVD RegionFree.

Yea, I'll have to try this also because I kept getting a Copy Right error when trying to burn Blow.

I've run DVD43 in the background to clear up the Copy Protection error that Shrink gives :)

I had no problem ripping and burning Blow or any other DVD using DVD Shrink...ever. So any problems must be your PC configuration or other program conflicts etc...

I had the same problem. I was using DVD Shrink all the time. Then I remembered that I re-installed Nero (demo version) until I put the serial number in the problem would not go away.

Maybe DVD Shrink sees something in Nero that we can't, just asking.

But problem was solved.

Sorry about not replying back on this. Veblin's advice proved to do the trick. I disabled Nero in the file I/O menu and haven't had any more problems. That's a very odd occurance, but at least it shouldn't happen again.

I had that problem with the Nero option being checked in DVD Shrink. Unchecked it and all is good again. Thanks for the tip!
