I previously posted about a program problem. Is there no solution?

I used a program I don't remeber to backup a DVD. It was my first DVD backup and I was a little concerned when the program said it would take eight hours as it was a three hour movie with little extras. After copying to my hard drive I was left with an .ac3 file, a d2v file, and two avs files. can I convert the files into an mpeg and watch them on a media player?

Since you can't remember what program you used, why don't you download & use two free programs, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink (might not even need Shrink if the original DVD is <4.4gb or so -- although since it's a 3-hour movie, forget that!), and try again? (There are guides for both Decrypter and Shrink on afterdawn -- click the "Guides" tab at the top of this page.) Of course this assumes that you still have the original DVD ...

Also the time you mentioned is way more than I've ever heard of -- could you post your system specs? Maybe you just have a slow computer? Also what DVD ripping & burning programs do you have on your computer? EG Nero, RecordNow, etc.

Karen H.--Dell Optiplex GX240, P4 1.50ghz, 256mb RAM (yeah, I need more), Windows XP Pro w/SP1, 80gb c: drive (replaced the 20gb c: that crashed), 126gb i: drive, 124gb j: drive, 500gb external hard drive partitioned into k: and l: drives, Sony DDU1621/C1 DVD-ROM to rip/encode, Sony DRX-530UL to burn, new Sony DRX-840U to burn DL discs ... need a new computer to go with it!!

kinza,

Just because nobody answers you question, doesn't mean post it again w/ a different title thread. You could always post a second time in your original thread. So in the future ... Please no double posts :)

Now, karen2003 suggested 2 great programs. Does DVD Rebuilder sound familiar? Cause on a slow system it could take that long. For me, using DVD Rebuilder w/ CCE Basic, takes 3-4 hours on a movie like LOTR3. Like karen2003 also said ... Can you post your specs?
