with the direections that you gave me I cannot get to what you are talking about and adjust anything. What version of Windows are you explaining for? I am using ME. I clicked Control Panel, System, from that point I can click on a Device Manager, Hardware Profiles or Performance tab. Si I clicked on Performance and at the bottom where it has the "Advanced settings" I can click on File System, Graphics or Virtual Memory.........Ya lost me somewhere....:) Thanks for the help and pantience thus far!

Alas, Win ME the final desperate cry of the Win 95 kernel. Memory leaks suck! But XP will fix it for now.

Most of the times I have seen low resources it has been caused by a faulty program more than the OS or hardware. What happens is that when you run a faulty program and then quit it later, all the memory, tcp sockets, or other resources that the program was using doesn't get freed up and the OS thinks it is still in use. Eventually you start running low on resources and you get the error message. This is called a resource or memory leak. They are usually fixed pretty fast in the OS, usually before they are out of beta since they are pretty apparent, that's why it is more common to see a leak in an application.

This article has a pretty good explanation on how to trace down the rogue program:
