I've got "Datastream Professional DVD+R (4.7GB) 4X" Media, and "Datastream Professional DVD+RW (4.7GB) 2.4X" Media.

The problem is with 'DVD+R 4X' Media when i burn my movie with that media, it plays back in my (Pioneer DV-266) DVD Player with errors n pixels appearing very regularly over the video and freezes all over the movie and jitters and some features of my dvd movie do not play back at all, instead reboots my dvd player.
With 'Datastream DVD+RW 2.4X' Media i use the same process of burning and configurations for the dvd and it plays back flawlessly with no errors or freezes whatsoever.

The problem seems to occur more often towards the end of the video, therefore could it be a speed burning issue or something?... as its more problematic as it gets closer to the end of the video where its reading towards outer tracks of the DVD Media. I've tried burning it again and still same problem, also tried burning other movies, so its not the movie itself as they do work on the other media fine. The 'Datastream DVD+R 4X' Media doesn't give the option in Nero to burn at 4X instead only 2.4X, My DVD Burner is a 4X Burner as I have burnt at this speed with other media brands.

- i use these settings in nero for my dvd-

1. DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)
2. No Multisession
3. ISO Level 1
4. ISO 9660
5. Allow path depth of more than 8 dir
6. Allow more than 255 char in path
7. Allow more than 64 characters for joliet names
8. Force DVD-Video compatibility mode

- also tried burning without 5,6 enabled but still same problems.

Also with the 'Datastream Professional DVD+R 4X' Media you can get 2 types of the exact DVD+R's in spindles, 1 type is the non glossy, printable white surface media, and the other is the same but in your normal shiny surface with DATASTREAM Professional Logo and details and contents on it etc.
The Media that doesn't have any logo or any text or graphics printed on it (the non glossy printable types) playback flawlessly when ive used them to burn before, but it seems now these ones with text and logo are the ones i'm having playback problems.
I don't understand this as they are the exact same DVD+R's apart from choosing to buy them with or without the printable white surface.

I also tried the DVD in my XBOX and it plays fine there....., but still i don't see why it won't play in my Pioneer DVD Player, when the same brand and type has played perfect before.

I'm really confused as why this is the case and any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thankyou!

My system config - 1800+ cpu, 256mb ram, 64mb gfx
- Windows XP Professional SP1
- Nero Burning Rom v6.0.0.11
- HP DVD Writer 300n

Welcome to the wonderful world of DVD-+r burning & all it's inherent problems.
Quote:

Classic symptoms of poor media or a DVD player that is NOT compatible with your media. Note also, that some apparent "good burns" with this media may, in time (over a few months), exhibit exactly the same problems you are suffering at present. I would also advise you to check your existing disks for "Read errors", just in case. Download DVDinfo pro.

Here is a good link to check your player's compatibility :-

DVD info pro link :-

If both disks are apparently "Datastream" it does not mean they are both the same dye or the same grade. With cheaper brands, you pay's your money, you takes your chance.

I would recommend trying a few Ritek (Ridata) blanks. These disks are widly recommended on this forum.

I hope this helps

I emailed bu-tek, they are the manufacturers:

I updated my firmware succesfully from the link you gave me, also i updated my Nero to V6.3.1.17, i then burnt the movie again but still the same problems as before. still it burns the media at 2.4X, but the inkjet printables which are also 4X burn at 2.4x aswell and I do not have problems with them, do you have anymore suggestions?. Will i be able to refund my media as this is false advertising because the packaging is the same and the media is also completely identical to the DVD+RW, therefore people would ofcourse expect the same performance from your media.

Hi xxxxxxx,

While I don' t have a HP 300n drive to test the media, I have just burn a movie with a Pioneer DVR-107D using the Datastream Professional DVD+R media. It seems to play ok. I used to have problem with DVD+R media using Nero 6.0.0.0, but they went away after I upgraded Nero to V6.3.1.17.
My suggestion is try updating Nero and the firmware of your burner and see if that can solve the problem. Below is a link to the HP site with the latest firmware for your drive. Please read the instructions carefully before attempting to upgrade firmware, as improper upgrade can damage your drive.

http://search.hp.com/gwaueng/redirect.html?type=REG&qt=dvd+writer+300n+firmware&url=http%3A//h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/21229.html&pos=2

The Inkjet printable DVD+R and the Professional series DVD+R are different medias, although they look the same, but they are from two different manufacturing processes. It is possible that the firmware of the drive is not recognising the newer type of media properly, therefore not burning it properly or recognising it as a 4X media. Try the suugestions above and see if you can get them working.

Thanks for your support!

kind regards,

xxxxxxxxxx

I've purchased your "Datastream DVD+R (4.7GB) 4X" 19pack Spindle, and "Datastream DVD+RW (4.7GB) 2.4X" 5Pack.

The problem is with your 'DVD+R 4X' Media when i burn my DVD video files with that media, it plays back in my (Pioneer DV-266) DVD Player with errors n pixels appearing very regularly over the video and freezes all over the movie and jitters and some features of my dvd movie do not play back at all, instead reboots my dvd player.

I checked the DVD+R Disc with Nero InfoTool, and also DVDInfo Pro, and they both revealed the discs supported writing speed is 2.4X, the Media is printed with 4X Support....or is this the supported speed by my burner

ive given up! these dvd discs are same branded and packaged dvd's, apart from either choosing to buy inkjet printable surface, or the standard ones with there logo and text printed on them, the inkjet ones work but the non inkjet printables dont! this is stupid!, i dont know why they do this 'false advertisment' so im gonna go refund these discs, hope they refund them! or im stuck with a 20 pack of non usable dvd's!!

- then im going to try ritek dvd+r 4x media, as over 15 ppl have all said they recomend i try these, so if they work im sticking to them for good.

- can i get everyones opinion on this price i got from the pc supplier i buy from who have real cheap prices.

Price $39AUD - RITEK DVD+R 4.7GB 4x Media 25 TUB
- equal to $1.56AUD per disc

- I've converted this price into USD for people in USA - $1.09USD per disc, is this a good price?

Hi
I have do all my burning, ripping on a inspiron 4000 P3 800. I been using decrypter, shrink, Nero...etc. I usually double my buring results on my home dvd player. Although they all come out fine, they can't play on my dvdrom drive in my computer...
Any advdice would be appreciated. I have updated the firmware ( I think??) and I did the DMA enabling thing. Also, I am buring on DVD+R.
Another weird thing. The dvd+r backups that I did with dvdxcopy works fine it's just the one I do with shrink/decrypter that acts funny.
Thanks

Are you using Shrink 3.2??? what Nero 5 or 6 ???
if you are using shrink 3.2 try burning with its burn engine and not with nero .....if you have nero 6 try UDF/ISO as some stand alone players like one or the other and try ticking under the UDF tap ....Force DVD compatiblity mode... That worked for me one my old DVD player also not all players like +R try -R and see if they work ....unless you have a DVD+R/-R
drive it wont playback in your PC either

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I have shrink 3.2 and the latest decrypter and Nero 6.
I will try your suggestions and get back with you. What I can't understand though is why the backups made with dvdxcopy play on dell inspiron drive but the ones backed up with decrypter or shrink won't. (???)
Thanks again

in DVD x copy ,,,it has its own burn engine you can set it up to burn with nero also ....I to have found no matter what movie you burn with xcopy it will play in the stand alone ....so the problem is with nero use the udf tap and they should play ,,,unless you stand alone does not like the media that you are using .....

ClipsKid
have you tried any other media at all ????
as all the maxell that I have used froze or hung and did all sorts of wonderfull things some did and some did not play

get yourself some good discs like Ritek GO4 -R and you should have no prob's

HI
I am somewhat new to this ripping/copying/backing up/encoding stuff. I have been having a problem for a while and I think I am getting an idea how to resolve it.
I have noticed for while not that not all my dvd backups played on my Dell laptop supplied LG DVD rom-- I use Power DVD 5--
I thought it was a media issue, so I got other/better media to use...went from dunex, memorex to sony. I kept on getting the same problem, until I noticed that the only backups that play are the ones made with dvdxcopy platinum or dvdxrescue as opposed to the backups made with shrink 3.2, alcohol 120%, decrypter. (BTW, regardless of the media or software I used, they all played on my home dvd player) so I dismissed the bad media theory and started thinking at other things. What I gathered from all this is that dvdxcopy and rescue all produced and burnt from VOB files, whereas the other programs copied from image files(iso, etc.)
Now my question is: how, if possible, do you get VOB files from shrink, decrypter, alcohol or any other software because I don't like using dvdxcopy.

Thanks in advance to any suggestions.

Shrink if you have set it up correctly takes the VOB's ,BUB and IFO's directly from the disc and there should be no problems

A120 is a good program but I dont use it

Decrypter you can set up to take just the VOB's if that is what you want to do

go into Edit and select what you want to take from the movie be it just the movie without the menu

this is realy a question for the ripping section and not here!!!!!!!!!!

jadsru1,

If you have a question it's best to start a single thread of your own. As you've already found out it's bad form to hijack several other people's threads with your own question. We're happy to help but we need to be couteous to other members and keep our forums clean and orderly :)

I have the same promblem. Half way thru the movie and everything goes to hell. Audio and video get all distorted untill it just turns black. I'm using FujiFilm DVD+R on a Plextor 708-a with the latest firmware. I Rip with DVD Decrypter encode with Shrink and burn With Nero. What I haven't tried is the udf/iso way with Nero. Do I just dump all the files on the disk? Or do I have to create folders(Video_ts Audio_ts).

No.

Yes, although all you really need is the VIDEO_TS folder. One exception is if you have a very old DVD player you may need the AUDIO_TS for to recognize and play the disc.

btw somebody above recommends 'bigpockets' a UK company. I'd avoid them at all costs, been ripped off by them big style, currently in the process of trying to recover money. They lie about what stuff they have in stock, don't make any attempt to answer phone or email, and despite being relunctantly eventually being promised a refund, its never appeared (neither did any goods)
Classic example of 'dodgy back street internet company'
