hey everyone, great site you have here.

im using the latest rebuilder and the retail cce sp 6.57 and i went with a 5 pass thing to compress my 7 gig movie so it fits on a dvdr. however an hour later the video is only 6 gigs. i thought that was really weird so i hit the append button again (i only did one click mode) and now its 4.67 gigs. still too big =[ i'm doing it again right now but is this kind of thing normal? it's my first time using the program hehe

thanks

That's strange since the default settings for DVD-RB should normally give you an output size of around 4.32GB. Have you made any changes to the Rebuilder.ini file. Whether you did or not, you should probably open it with Notepad and post the contents here. You can find it in the same directory in the DVD-RB program directory.

You should probably also change from 1-Click to 3-Click at least until you get the problem sorted out.

I didn't figure you did, just thought I'd make sure. At any rate I'll take a look at the ini file when you get a chance to post it and see if anything jumps out at me.

Here's an idea. You can set a custom size for the disc, which is normally done to make it bigger not smaller, but try adding this line right under [Options]:

CCETargetSectors=2260000

If you don't want to go all the way to the edge of the disc you might want to change number to something a little smaller. That number gets me within 20MB of a full disc pretty much every time.

Okay we need to see what's going on with the bitrate settings. The easiest way to do that is to open the project in RB-Opt:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75202

You can find instructions for using RB-Opt here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_rebuilder_tutorial_advanced_page_7.cfm

The latest version of RB-Opt is supposed to tell you what the size of the rebuilt DVD will be based on DVD-RB's settings. I think it's listed at the top of the window.

After doing some searching and working with someone else with this problem here at Afterdawn, I'm starting to think this is a problem specific to the latest version of DVD-RB. You might want to try it out with an older version. If you don't have one, PM me with your email address and I can send you the last version.

Well, I have the same problem with RB 0.56 and CCE SP 2.67.00.23 (+ ECLCCE). The size was almost normal (4396 MB) with the first recode, but with the movie "Black Hawk Down" the result came out as big as 4880 MB!
I went through the movie in DVDReMake and figured out that the main Menu (in VTS_01) was left out of calculation.
Is it possible?
I have 3 more days left before I can ask it from the RB author at the Doom9 forums... :D

After doing some more reading last night on the Doom9 forums I think this may be a problem with the latest version of CCE. Apparently one or more of the command line options have been changed, and this may be causing your problem. jdobbs is aware of this and I expect it will be fixed soon, so the only solutions seem to be to either use an older version of CCE or wait for DVD-RB to be updated with support for the newest one.

It could be the solution, but (as I wrote) I do not use the latest version of CCE SP (2.67.00.27 as far as I know) but v. 2.67.00.23. DVD RB 0.56 is a later release than this CCE.
Any other ideas? I do not want to start 5-7 hours encodings while this oversizing issue is not clear for me.

Sorry I didn't notice that before. I'm not sure what your problem is then. If you go up a couple of posts on this thread you'll find some information about checking the size your disc should end up at by using RB-Opt. that will at least tell you if DVD-RB's calculations were correct.

I have another problem with RB 0.56 and CCE SP 2.67.00.27(not demo version), I did a test with the 0.56 version and it seems the folder it makes is too small in my opinion. Test was made with Dr. Zhivago disc1, normal size 5.68Gb, RB made the job in 95 minutes with a result of 3,53Gb.

The working folder size of RB does not equal to the output DVD size. Audio streams are not saved to this folder.

CCE SP 2.67.00.27 is likely to cause problems with DVD-RB regardless of whether it's a trial or not. I've seen several reports on Doom9 of problems with this version, and since it's been established that there have been changes to the ECL format for it I wouldn't use it without a newer version of DVD-RB that will be able to create correct ECL files. Unfortunately Doom9's forums are down now (and may be down for a while), so I wouldn't expect an new version of DVD-RB any time soon.
