DVD+R /RW problem

Hello
I've got some big problems with my Philips DVD8301/44 DVD+R/RW drive.
I attached it to my computer last friday. On that day it worked just fine.
So on that day I burnt two DVD+Rs with it. One was a DVD+R that was
full of video of files. After it was burnt, I manually checked that each file on the DVD+R worked. The other one was a Video-DVD that I gave to my brother and he tested and it worked on his DVD-player.
Now, after making those two DVD+Rs, I've gotten big problems with the drive. Now, each and everytime I put a DVD+R in the drive and try to see what is in there by looking in there with explorer I get this message "D: is not accessible. The drive is not ready" I get this message when I put empty DVD+Rs in there, or the very DVD+R that I made that worked when I tested it... Now, storebought movie DVDs and Cds work fine on the drive. The only thing that is giving me problems is the DVD+R.. obviously this is a big problem because I can't burn any DVD+Rs with it..
When I try to burn them with Nero I get a "waiting for drive to become ready" message... Burning CD-Rs with the drive works fine...
I'm running Windows 98
I updated the firmware, but no effect...
Anybody know what I could do to remedy the situation?

Hmmmm, sounds like it maybe a windows problem that.....
98 is considerably older than the drive you have, and therefore they may be problems with the interface for it.......
Try uninstalling it (in device manager) and rebooting - windows will find the device again and may cure it....
If this fails to work, uninstall the IDE controller it is on (in device manager also) and reboot.....
Or/and goto to the OEM website and see if there are any drivers applicable to your burner......
It definately sounds like an interface issue....lets us know how you get on....

Heehee - no worries Nephilim.........
I cannot really point out advice on ASPI interfaces as I never use them, therefore I feel it maybe be hypocritical to say update the ASPI layer - even though it may probably resolve the issue.......
I just pass out the normal steps - and leave it upto the ASPI Wizards to jump in and provide the links etc.....LOL

Hello guys
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
Unfortunately, removing it from system manager nor installing "ForceAspi" seemed to fix the problem...
I just don't understand why... It reads everything but the damn DVD+Rs... When I put the DVD+Rs in the drive and try to burn something with Nero or Alcohol 120, it just says that the drive is empty...
What OS do you think might be worth trying if it's an OS related problem? XP?
And could you tell me what is the "OEM" website?

I should add that, honestly speaking, I really don't know much about Operating systems... I've been using Windows 95 and 98 pretty much all the time I've been using computers... Is this Millennium edition like 98, and is it new enough to be of possible assistance?

Sorry I missed the fact that you are running Win 98. Your first fix would be to upgrade to Win XP home or pro.
