Can anybody tell me if it is possible to disable the drive from reading macrovision. Thus leaving the protection on the burnt disk.

I don't think there is any program that will let you copy a dvd movie and leave the encryption on the copy. I think this is what you are asking. Why would you want to do this anyway?

I dont think there is a program that will do it, but Iam of the belief that the drive can be modified via firmware so that it doesnt read macrovision. As for why 1 it will make the process quicker. 2 to annoy certain people who use us that do all the work and do straight copying of what you do for profit. so I want them to do some work for a change.

Years ago before DVD's I use to remove the macrovision chips in some VCR's which would allow tapes to be copied in the way you are suggesting for dvd's. The componets today are so small that finding the chip would be a fun task. I'm sure someone that is up to date on micro-chips might still do that but its out of my league these days.
Easier to use software or macrovision remover boxes. Still no way I know of to keep the copy protection on a DVD copy.

i think DVD Decrypter has a remove macrovision option which you could uncheck. But wouldn't a backup with macrovision not work (isn't that the point)?

Exactly, If you pop a protected dvd in the drive and use something like Nero to do a disc copy, you get the message that the dvd is copy protected and can't be copied. Thats why the different softwares were developed.
