Hi, all. I've had 100's of successful burns using a combination of DVD Shrink, RecordNow, and Ritek Ridata DVD+R discs. With RecordNow, for some reason when you burn video_ts folders you burn them as a data disc, not a video disc. It always works perfectly and the discs play on my stand-alones fine.

OK, here's the question. I'm thinking of doing some DVD-R burns but I remember reading on these forums SOMEWHERE that DVD-R discs have to be burned as "video discs" and finalized (maybe my DVD+R discs are also going through a finalization process in RecordNow, but I never get that message). But when I try to create a "video disc" in my version of RecordNow, it opens Sonic MyDVD, which I've never used for video_ts folders, only for editing of short files that I sometimes use in my classrooms. So is there a way to burn video_ts folders in Sonic MyDVD? If so, how? BTW I also have ULead VideoStudio so could use that for video_ts folders if it works (I've only used that program for short video editing as well).

And on a related note -- has anyone used DVD-R discs to create a "data disc" (really a video disc) in RecordNow? Maybe it would work after all, just like it does with DVD+R discs. (I'm too cheap to waste a disc trying it unless I know it will work!!)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Karen2003

In Recordnow there is no difference whether you burn to +r or -r dvd's.......the process is exactly the same.

Burning under data disc is correct, but what hinges on Recordnow to produce a 'video disc' you need to make sure that 'recognise AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders' is selected in the tools/options/data disc section.

I have written a simple walkthrough guide that is posted here http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/record_now.htm

This should produce some nice solid burns for you.

I do -r burns all the time and have no problems......I have also done +r burns using the same method......

If you have any questions just let us know......

Your guide is great & I recognize several options that are on my version of RecordNow -- but not all options are. (My version is the one that came with my Sony burner, which is probably a "lite" version.) For example, on the "Data Job Options" in the guide, it lists several options under "DVD" including "Recording Type." That's not even an option in my version -- but the defaults in my version must be what you have listed as needing to be chosen, because the burn always works.

I had thought I read somewhere that a DVD-R disc had to be made as a "video disc" and finalized. It's nice to know I can use my tried-and-true method even with DVD-R discs.

BTW do you think it's worth buying the full ("Max") version of RecordNow? What additional features would I get?

Thanks again for your quick reply!

It is upto you really, my philosophy is if it works well - then why buy another copy just because it is a later revision........

However you will find that the later versions do have more compatibility with a huge range of burners and implemented technology with todays burners.....
As you stated, ALL the options in my guide are not included in your bundled software, this leads me to believe you are probably using an older version - probably version 4 or 4.10

The next version from yours (4.5), this was what my guide was based on, so to compare it with an older/bundled version would be difficult as I have never used the older ones.........just 4.5

The 'recognise AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS folders, tells the program that if it sees them in a data job, then to produce a 'video disc'..........

You can also create multisession discs with Recordnow onto cd/dvd - (again not sure if you can with the older versions).

The reason I like it is that there do not seem to be ANY bugfixes - which lead me to believe it has been thoroughly road tested, the only update is the pxengine - which adds more writer support (speeds/model/manufacturers etc).......

However, if you are at the lower version I would recommend an update for sure, as you will see the advanatages I'm sure........

To check out the software goto http://www.orlogix.com/products.php

There are 2 here the Deluxe and the Max Platinum, the Max Platinum has the advantage of MP3 support aswell, but in terms of video data burning and standard data then it will just have increased levels of options and userability.

Hope this has been some help, and just post if I can assist you further.....

BTW your specs are ok for Recordnow, and yes maybe a little more RAM would be useful....

I started out with a P3 Celeron 1.1GHz and 384Mb RAM PC133 and with Recordnow MAX Version 4.5 had 100% success with it - using Pioneer A03 on -r dvd's
