I have downloaded a couple of movies off of kazaa, one in a .mpg format and another in a .avi (divX) format. I have a dvd burner and blank dvd+r media. I would just like to know what are the steps to taking the movies from my computer, burning them to a dvd, and being able to play them on a home dvd player. I have surfed through many of the forum threads on here and have found many that asked this question but didnt seem to get a clear answer. I really don't want to burn to a vcd as I already have a dvd burner and dvd media. Any help would be appreciated. Remember, i'm a newbie :)

You will need a prog. called "Virtual Dub." Virtual Dub will allow you to dub the movie from divx to avi format. Once you have done that then you will need to convert the audio to a wav file. Then use tmpgenc to process the wav and avi file to an mpeg file. Then burn your movie to dvd-r.

OK thank you, but where can I get these programs? Are they on this site? Are the free or do i have to buy them? And if I already have a movie in MPEG format, can I just burn that directly to the dvd? There isnt any format that I need to convert the MPEG to? In other words, is MPEG format the proper dvd format to burn to dvd+r. Thanks again, Cory.

go here: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/vcd_to_dvd-r.cfm

this page is very usefull if you already have the mpg file. Step by step walkthrough with all the nessecary software for burning. If you need to convert the avi file to an mpg, then just use tmpegenc to do this.
