Hi,

I'm looking for some help here on how to manipulate the subtitles on this movie. Anyone else who owns this version knows that with no subtitles selected you do not get any English translation of the Japanese dialogue spoken in the movie. If the English subtitles are turned on, you get them throughout the whole movie. I would like to back up the movie so that I do not have to turn the subtitles on manually in order to get the translation and, also, would only require the subs in those particular scenes that warrant it.

Is there anybody that could help this most tortured of souls?

Cheers!

Hiya,

I don't have that particular DVD, but I can guide you with some basic rules.

Using DVDShrink:

Click Re-Author
Navigate to the main movie of the DVD
After the initial analysis has completed, select compression settings.

DESELECT the audiostreams you don't want
DESELECT ALL subpicture streams.

SELECT the ENGLISH subpicture stream that has the SMALLEST size (this is normally the forced stream).

Backup.

Test...

Have Fun...

Thanks for that drchips,

However, there is only one English subtitle stream and that gives you subs throughout the whole film. Because the DVD is from Japan, there is no need for them to provide English subs purely for when the dialogue is in Japanese. Therefore to understand what they are saying you have to activate the English subs, and then unfortunately you have subtitles through the whole movie. What I need to do is remove all of the subs from the English dialogue scenes and leave the subs that appear when characters are speaking Japanese. I also want the subs once edited to appear automatically (forced) so that I don't have to activate them when I want to watch it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Have you just tried leaving in the only audio stream that you require ie. the English 5.1 or whatever and removing all subtitles. It may be that by leaving one english audiostream in and no subtitles that the english subs will come onscreen automatically as they may be built into the english audiostream!..lol.. does that make sense.

Thanks for that,

It looks like a complicated process, but I'll give it a go.

Thanks again.

Don't think removing all the subs and leaving just the audio will get you the subs for the japanese dialouge, i did this when I made my backup of the american version and didn't get any subs at all. wasted dvd
