Hi pieman, I'm guessing your 107 drive is OEM possibly under another brand name. My memorex was a 106D so I had to flash it to read true pioneer before any other flash would work. Try this link and see if it helps.
http://gradius.rpc1.org/ If the actual info you need isn't there e-mail gradius from there.

If you don't already have this, download dvdinfopro. Its a free program that will give all sorts of information about your drive, blank media, etc. It will show the drive name and then below that the actual manufacturer , firmware version and model. If its says Pioneer on the outside, it should be Pioneer. I don't know of Pioneer using any other maker for drives. Here is the link for the tool.
http://www.dvdinfopro.com. Maybe something will show up with this to help out.

hi jerry..finally did it! I downloaded the 'all patched firmware' from Gradius and voila!!Have new firmware but with same probs!!Im having to check every burn with infopros spee check, and ALWAYS from around 3-3.1 gig the graph looks like barbed wire and its around here that the disc sometimes fail completely.I thought id fixed it yesterday when i changed the ide cable from new round ones to my old ribbons.Burns were fine for a while and then back to bieng erratic. All progs are shut down, same happens when i burn with Nero or clone (latest updates).Any ideas?

You problem could be related to the type blank media you are using. I use only Ritek grade A blanks and don't have any problems. Also make sure your IDE channels are set to DMA in device manager. Not PIO.

Well you have done a lot of homework and seem to have tried everything I can think of. I don't know where you ended up after switching things around, but make sure your burner is set for MASTER on the secondary IDE channel for best results. You might want to remove the burner drive in device manager and then reboot so windows reinstalls the drive again properly. But I'm kind of at the end of suggestions. Maybe someone else will add to this thread.
Good luck and I'll keep thinking about this. If anything comes up I'll let you know.
