I have downloaded my vhs files to mpeg dvd quality format using ati cards on my PC.
How do I burn these mpeg files to DVD disc?
Any help will be appreciated.
I realize, I can use DVD authoring programs..but can I use any freeware for this?

Assuming you captured to DVD compliant resolution you could use Rejig to author them.

You may have to Demux to elementary audio and video streams first, but if I remember correctly Rejig can do that as well. If you want menus it won't do that, but for basic authoring it works great.

My files are mpeg format. I downloaded and tried to use rejig..using Demux but not much luck. The video was there but the audio was missing. Many a times the program would close saying it had encountered an error.
The files I have downloaded on my TV capture card are DVD quality and play well with Windows Media player, ATI players etc. My problem is how to convert the same so I could burn DVD.

You could try downloading a trial version of either TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD-Lab. Either one should be able to import your MPEG files directly. If they won't I'd say it means there's something wrong with the MPEGs and you might need to also download a trial of Womble MPEG-VCR to see if you can fix them.

Hey,

I followed the thread and was trying to understand the process of mpeg to DVD using the TMPNGnc.

Since my "movies" are already in MPEG-2 format, what is happening to the file to get it onto the DVD ?

I have bought a DVP642 and it says it will play MPEG-2 so how do I get these files onto a DVD without waiting hours ?

Thanks in advance.
