@kenevs, joecaper or whom may concern,

Here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350 - the method I provided along with Sonix's GT4 DVD5 Ripper v1.02 works 100%. You guys need to follow exactly on the steps I provided, it should work. Remember that the method I used is for the US (NTSC) GRAN TURISMO 4 with 4.94GB. and you'll need to use the PSS Downsampling at 55%, NOT 50%.

@joecaper, I don't know how you got DVD Decrypter 4.6.5, but according to my knowledge DVD Decrypter only goes to as far as 3.5.4.0 (the very last version "latest").

Again, just follow my guide in combo with SONIX wisely and you'll have a successfully GT4 backup in a single layer 4.7GB DVD-R or DVD+R within an hour.

Good luck!!

My bad....the version of DVD Decrypter I have is indeed 3.5.4.0. But if you read my first post, the problem is that DVD Decrypter cannot rip the original disk. I tried with 2 different disks, and both resulted in an I/O error. Unless there is another program than Decrypter to use I'll have to wait on another way to copy.

@kenevs

My method in combination with Sonix's GT4 DVD5 Ripper v1.02 works 100%. If it doesn't work, then either there is a step you've missed (left out) or something's wrong along the steps. I've already backed up 3 copies and it's fully working just like the Original GT4 game, yes... a full GT4 game, including every modes (everything).

However, keep in mind that my guide is for the US (NTSC 4.94GB). If you or anyone is interest in rebuilding the PAL (EUROPE) version of GT4, then maybe try to "downsample" at 50% (this is taken straight from Sonix's GT4 tutorial guide from the Rip Tool).

Good luck!!

Again, here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350 is my method in combo with Sonix and it works like a charm.

@joecaper

It sounds like your original copy is really dirty, badly scratched, etc. Try to clean it(the original game) real good before ripping it with DVD Decrypter again. Once DVD Decrypter is open, go to Tools, Settings, I/O, now set/check on "ignore read errors", click OK. Now retry to rip the game again.

Good luck!!

I have been trawling the forums for a solution that works for me.

Some of you may get what you think is a no-good copy, as it freezes on the white 'Polyphony' screen

If it does, try re-booting and this time press X quickly just before that screen comes up, after the Sony C E E welcomes you etc message (on mine there's a beep after it's read the Memory card).

It only helps those who've managed all the other steps, but it may help you when you think you've failed.

I am new to backing up ps2 games,after doing 50 cent Bulletproof without a hitch(Thanks alkohol),I got a little cocky and gave GT4 a shot,this one was a whole different ball game(so to speak)LOL
With the help of sonix tutorial, and the tools provided, I was able to make a backup of GT4(US version)it looks and plays just like the original.
Finding Sonix's website was a blessing for me, because his tute was easy to understand and follow,also I dont think doing this game is possible without Sonix tools(nice website btw).

Thanks sonix and alkohol for helping me get started :)

blaze on guys
Jim

@jim_dandy

You're welcome buddy. Glad I could help and I'm glad you were able to get a successful backup of GT4. Honestly, yes.... GT4 worth every pennies (at least I made 3 backups for me, just in case any of them gets all scratched up).

Enjoy your GT4 backup to the fullest now. Yeah, I got 2 of your PM and finally an "Addict" afterall. I haven't seen you around for awhile, but anyways, catch ya latter at the forum.

Hi Agent Stewie! Forgive me for being a little rusty right now, but I've not spent much time with this lately.

If you want to keep everything at it's original size, there is a flattening kit on my site that has been in circulation for some time now. As far as booting it goes, I'm not sure how you'd go about that without chip or swap, although I understand that there is a memory card exploit successfully used by may people. You'd have to look this up and You might still need some sort of mod to get it installed. Someone else might have better knowledge about this subject than I do.

Why havent sony bothered with the later release games to incorporate some kind of new method of copy protection like they did with GT4?
Maybe with the release of the PS3 the ps2 isnt such a priority??

Hiya Crowy!

Yeah it's amazing the amount of fuss and sleepless nights it caused. In the end, it came down to nothing more than an encrypted file table and some well placed disk checks. Simple but effective.
