your phone IS the modem. It isn't looking for a modem on your PC.

If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.

a few hours may indicate a problem !!

Try connecting your phone to your PC. If you already have, try a different socket. Try installing some drivers for the phone and moto usb modem drivers. Finally try to do things in an order needed to get these things working. Everyone I have helped so far just go in head first without order.

Been following this thread for a few days since buying a V220 and d/ling MPT. The software installed at the third attempt with a bit of manual help so it could find a missing .dll. The driver installed OK.

Now using USB cable and trying to transfer an MP3 to the phone. It's 11KB, a dog barking. Plays OK on the PC. Plays OK in the Melody thing but I can't see any of the locations on the phone side of the Mobile Explorer window, so can't drag and drop it.

OK, back to the Melody thing, highlight and click the Transfer button at the top. Away she goes and the MP3 now appears in the list under Multimedia on the phone's own display. Try to play it -- file is corrupt.

Try to transfer again but the software can't see the phone. Disconnect/reconnect the USB and it works again, until I re-transfer the MP3. It's corrupt again and the PC loses the phone.

This is one seriously flaky piece of software. Anyone else suffering from the same symptoms?

okay i am finally fed up with MPT.
is there any other software or any other way to download ringtones and wallpapers and stuff to your phone from a pc an usb cable.
I have a windows 98 and a v220 phone.
I hate MPT and am tired of reading thread after thread on how to install it and reinstall it 15 times before it works. There has to be another program or software or way to do this. Plz help.

Alright. I downloaded the USB drivers, the P2K drivers, and Phone Tools 3.11.

The USB Drivers installed fine, I couldn't figure out how what to do with the P2K drivers since there were only three files and none of them were executable.

The Phone Tools 3.11 installed but it refuses to read the phone. After setting everything up it asked to plug in the phone. I had it plugged in already, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it did the clock thing where it was "setting up the phone" for about 5 minutes then went to the little phone GUI and it says "Phone Image Not Available" and "initializing".

Who wants to help me?

I couldn't get the 3.11 version to work properly either. It had errors and conflicts with dlls from other programs on my computer. Instead, I used the links from the first post on page 10 of this thread and that worked perfectly. Just install 1.23, then run the update to 2.16, then do live update to 3.19 and it should work. I never downloaded the P2K files and it still worked fine. I still can't figure out how to transfer video clips to the phone with the software though, but everything else works. I'm using Win2K not 98 though, don't know if that makes a diferenc or not.

Please disregard my post above.

I tried it again, and this time I did an advanced Windows XP install and directed it to the folder I extracted the P2K files to, and it seems to have worked so far. The drivers installed and Phone Tools is running, we'll see how it goes.

Mine took about 5 minutes to initialize. When I came back from the bathroom it was done. But it still doesn't let me transfer MP3s to the phone.

Use melody studio to transfer MP3s. But...how do you transfer videos? I keep getting unsupported format.

I initially had problems installing MPT, but that's when I was installing straight from the version 3.11 download. Yesterday, I downloaded the 1.23c version and the 2.16 update and then used the Live Update and it updated to 3.19e I believe and now everything is working fine. I just received my Motorola v220 and I was wondering if you transfer ringtones and pictures and whatnot to your phone, will you incur extra charges on your cellular bill? And if so, is it worth it to use MPT or am I better off just buying ringtones?

No charge if you transfer it yourself from your computer to the phone thru the software, it only costs if you download from the web via the phone or buy them from a site via the computer etc.
