Can anybody help me find or direct me to a working link to the 2.21b upgrade? I have the 1.23c file and the p2k file, but I need the upgrade. I'm trying to get my V551 to work with my PC. I'm running XP with SP2 if that makes any difference. Please e-mail me or send me a PM.

ok im a complete newb to this and after messin around I finally got it working, try and get the 3.11 version,I found a working link on a forum around here somewhere, if u cant get it then get the original and get the update and then use the live update to get up the newest 3.whatnot version. after u have that dled open it up and then plug in ur phone to the usb port and it should bring up the new hardware detected then follow this tutorial brought to u by someone who posted earlier
http://www.explaration.com/files/MPT1.23c_driver_guide.pdf this should set ur driver up or whatnot w/out downloading that p2k crap or whatever it is its beyond me haha. it gave me a timeout i/o error or something and i just said ok and then my phone magically linked with the software. This is how i got mine to work and i hope you can understand it because i couldnt understand all the other crap ppl were trying to say, this is simple for everyone who cant decipher all of the jargon people are saying about everything else. hope this can help some people out and good luck. ps i have windows xp but i dunno what the service pack crap is.

Hey, new to this thing, but I feel your pain. I have finally got MPT up and going, transfered some small mP3 ringtones to the phone (V220), but if I try to play them in the phone, it says they are corrupted. Anyone have any ideas what the heck is going on?

all my ringtones are midi files and they work fine. I don't know about using MP3's as ringtones. Unfortunately you cannot convert MP3's to midi format. Try what M3phist0 said a few posts up about using an audio editor and chopping up the file. Then you can select EXACTLY where in the song you want to record and stop. I would save them as very low quality also .. like 32 kbps or lower.

yeah sorry, i havent looked good enough, i actually got it working. But my only question is, how would i transfer games/ring tones to my v220? I went into multimedia centre, and i tried to transfer a 1MB mp3 to the "audio" folder, and it doesn't do anything. The program just sits there. It doesn't tell me if its transferring or not. Anyone else having this problem or am i just doing it wrong?

your ring tones are gonna have to be MUCH smaller than 1MB. I think the V220 only has about 1.8MB of user memory anyway. The midi ringtones I use are like 20-45KB in comparison.
I don't know anything about games.

For v220 users:
sup yall, i just got the moto v220 and i was having trouble getting it connected to my pc..after screwin around i finally got it to work...now it works great and i can all sorts of sh!t ( tranfer pics from phone 2 pc, transfer ring tones to the phone..blah blah blah). i gots win xp pro (and i dont got SP1 or SP2).
i dont know if that matters..
what u need - usb cable, winRAR (used for managing .rar files)
here's what i did:
1. go to this site http://coma.fsb.hr/motorola/files/ and download the "Motorola.Mobile.PhoneTools.v3.11h.Final.Retail.rar" File.
2. after u dl it run the SETUP.exe..winRAR may give u sum diagnotic errors sayin some Sh!t(just close the window)...also during setup u will get some sort of error windows...just click ignore.
3. after setup is complete launch MPT (don't connect your phone to pc yet!)
4. choose the how u want to connect ur phone to PC( select USB)...click NEXT or OK or whatever the hell it says to go on to the next step.
4. make sure ur phone is on and connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable. it should detect your phone ...a found new hardware window may pop up.
5. Now...u shood see a model of the V220 skin and it will say it is initializing...wait a bit and be patient.
6. if everything works well and it is initialized it should work..if not..i dont know what to tell ya =(
Note* if it does work 4 u, make sure that the next time u wanna connect your phone 2 the computer that u plug it into the same USB port everytime or windows will keep detecting it as new hardware...
for next time ..clik on the mobile Phone tools icon >choose a profile >connect phone 2 pc > clik OK..
also when ur phone is connected 2 ur pc..make sure its flipped open...i dont know if this makes a difference but thats what i did ..
this worked w/ my v220 but im not sure bout other models.
using MP3s as ring tones:
- in mutimedia center goto melody studio
- clik my melodies tab and select the mp3 u want
- select/highlight the portion of the mp3 that u want 2 use as your ringtone...a good length is 10 - 12 seconds. (if your havin trouble, refer to the help menu on how 2 do this)
- clik "save selection as" at the top tool bar.
- name it and save it in mp3 format. (the mp3 is compressed so it wont be such a large file)
- **ok...now...instead of tranferring the file to ur phone in Melody studio, go to Mobile Explorer..
-clik da "My Music" tab on both My Computer and Mobile Phone window menus
- find the file u saved and click the "copy to mobile phone icon"..it should transfer the mp3 to ur phone.
Note: *on makin more ringtones:
for some odd reason it wont save properly if u try to save another mp3 ringtone in the same folder as a previously created ringtone...to avoid this just simply save it in another folder or juss make sure that there are no other previously created mp3 ringtones in the folder u are savin it in..
This sh!t worked 4 me...
* the v220 only has bout 1.5MB of space

I transferred my pics using the Multimedia Center part of the Phone Tools. I also used that part of the app to transfer the midi files to my phone to use as ring tones. There should be a folder for pics and one for audio.

Just to let you guys know with a ASUS mobo and antec case, the front USB ports do not seem to work well with this device. I get an "USB device malfunctioned" if you plug into the front usb ports, but zero problems if you use the rear. My digital camera (Sony MCV 5.0 megapix) also gives me the same error.
