SVCD vs VCD

I was just wondering, can SVCD be played in the stand alone dvd player or does the stand alone only handle the VCD and why?

I'm asking this because I've created my first SVCD, using DVDx to convert the VOB files into mpeg and then burned it with CDRWIN 5 (maybe I should have used Nero instead), the CD playes fine in my PC on WinDVD, but won't play in the stand alone.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It depends on the specific model of DVD player. Check the box your player came in, manual, or http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers for SVCD compatibility info.

It's entirely up to the manufacturer wether or not he includes SVCD support.

Even if your player does not support SVCD you might be able to "gimick" it into playing them with the "VCD header trick." I suggest you do a search through the forums at VCDHelp to find out how to do this.

...there you will find instructions on how to create excellent quality SVCDs and more important, how to BURN THEM CORRECTLY with Nero.

Anyway, check the list haroldw posted to see if your player supports SVCDs -- if it does, you've probably burned the SVCD incorrectly. Also, changing the CD media brand might help.
