As an update Shadow the Hedgehog worked without any modifications. Slimeline V13, SwapMagic 3.6+, Seagate 500 GB Free Agent HD. Might be a good reference game for testing. At least now I know it can work.

Hopefully someone here can help me out....I am using USB Advance, everything is hooked up correctly. My problem is with FF XII. I saw someone else on here said it works, but everytime i copy right at the VERY end (3876.50 MB out of 3878.13 MB) i get the same thing ...I get 4 read errors and a "giving up" notice. I tried THREE different versions of FF XII, from other sources, and I still get the same thing. PLEASE HELP !! lol. Seriously anything you guys can do would be much appreciated, thanks.

I got it working!!! Go get PPF-O-MATIC, then go to http://www.ps3news.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=3475and download the patch. Apply the patch to your existing ISO. Burn the ISO with USB INSANE (do NOT use USB EXTREME, it will NOT work). Finally boot with USB EXTREME , run it, and you're good to go. ;)

took me mad hours, but it was worth it.

One more thing....the beginning intro movie DOES skip, but when you finally get into your gameplay , it works fine. Let me know how this works for you

Thats great reign360.........if you go to http://jaydium.servehttp.com/usbextreme/gamelist.php you can always add that game and say how you got it to work to let others know.

Yes movies don't always play so great on a USB drive because of the USB 1.1 but as long as gameplay works I am happy.

I know myself I use many tricks also to get games to work on my usb drive. I also prefer usbinsane to copy games. I only use the USBextreme to delete the ones that don't work.

I have not had a chance to try anything with this one yet. I only copied it to my hard drive.
Here is a read on GODofWARII with hdloader.

i got the DVD9 GOW2 transferred to the harddrive and it showed up on the USB Extreme menu, but it won't load. So we're close.......I will be trying with a DVD5 version today. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again for your help.

One more quick question..:/

The main problem I am having is that my SM DVD isnt working , so thats why I have to go through all these steps. I have been reading about the MC exploits but it looks super-complicated because everyone seems to have their own method. Does the exploit do what I need it to do as far as booting to a menu where i can run any of my backups WITHOUT using SM? That's my main goal....to be able to just start up my ps2 and then just have to throw in the backup instead of doing all these swaps.

I am also working on the DVD5 of GOWII also as we speak and trying something with the DVD9 version also.
Just got to finish them up and test which will be a little while yet.

As for your SM DVD, did it ever work, can you exchange it from where you bought it from. Thats what I had to do with mine and they did.

Yes there are some good tutorials on the exploit, but I don't know how they work with a usb drive.
I know they work via hd loader.
You may want to start a new thread to ask that question.

http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=exploit_utility_tutorial.html
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289

Couple good threads there.

Ok I have tried both the DVD9 patched and it wouldnt load, and I tried the DVD5 and it won't load either.
Works great with SM 3.8 though (the DVD5 of course)

I too have had a problem with SM working while a USB drive is plugged in. Try letting SM load first, then plug in the drive and run USB Extreme (or whatever else you use) and see if that helps.

I tried GOW2 (DVD5), and I am gettin gthe same result as with the DVD9, hopefully one of you guys have better luck. :/

oK First how did you format your 2.5 USB drive. Sometimes is better to format first with NTFS, then using USBExtreme ul_install i would format it to FAT32.
Then make folder SWAPMAGIC, put in usbadvance.elf file and rename it to SWAPMAGIC.ELF
Its important that they are in caps as I have above.

Hi I need Some help Does This method Work for ps1 Games because
I have a ps2 Slimline and a 60Gb usb hard Drive
and I Did a Full format on My usb hard Drive to the FAT32
and I Downloaded USB Advance ELF and Renamed it to SWAPMAGIC.ELF
and Made a folder named SWAPMAGIC in the root directory of My USB mass storage device..

And I Have - Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed
That I Got From My Dad a Wile Back but i don't have the real Cd any More.

and the File is not in iso Format

its in 4 Files / NTSC-U)

1.Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.img
2.Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.cue
3.Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.ccd
4.Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.sub
------------------------

I have Tryed To Convert Them to iso useing MagicISO
But Then When its Done i tred to test it With ePSXe emulator and it wont play , When i tested it with the Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.img File it Worked on the ePSXe emulator

So Then I Tyed to use USBInsane to convert it to the hard Drive Files and to do that i browsed the Folder that it is in and and since its not an iso i had to tyed the 1st latter , the N and i saw it so i clicked on it and converted it to the hard drive files for swap magic

But When i load it i can see the name of it on the sceen so i tryed to load it but it goes to a fuzzy sceen right away.

i also tryed it to load a ps2 game and i sawl it for that to and clicked on it but it goes to a black sceen so i figerd it just did not have a nof ram or something to load that
