On a side note:)
A mate of mine was given a viagra tablet and decided to try just half the other day. There is nothing wrong with his you know what, but he tried it just to see what it's like.He said he had sex twice that night with his wife...But it was hard all night and his heart was beating that loud he could hear it!!!!Said he didn't sleep at all because he thought he might have a heart attack and not wake up!
I told him he should know better than to try to overclock his D**K!!!

ROFLMAO, you guys are hilarious. I don't need the little blue pill but a buddy of mine has some and I might have to give that OC a try myself......don't know that I would like my heart beating through my chest and in my ears though.......

NuckNFuts,

I guess I need to address this question to you or anybody else with an E6750 in a mobo using the 975X chipset, asus P5W DH Deluxe to be precise. how well does this combo OC? if I flash the bios to the latest vs. I don't need the pin mod correct? will it still OC and perform ok with my DDR2 800 memory. I am contemplating getting an E6750 if it will work and OC ok with my existing mobo and ram. thanks.

I'm using one in my GA-965P-DS3 and it's clocked to 3.5GHz. Should do better in your motherboards as their better boards!

I got more out of mine than I expected, but not as much as I wanted! LOL!!

I think I'll spend the extra $20 and get the GA-P35-DS3R and eventually use Raid. According to a lot of overclocking testers and forums, this is the board for overclocking a 6750! I'm not the least bit unhappy with the way my 965P MB works but there's a P35 in my future! Gotta keep up with the times! LOL!!

Mort81, I have the same parts as you know, but P5W-DH is occuoied at the moment to test w/ E6750. I did test on an Abit !975xMAX mobo but not any better then E6600 OC on same mobo. Best I could say is to expet the same OC but with a little less volts and heat. The ASUS will not allow the mobo strap to 1066 to use and OC as a 1066 in 1:1 DDR. I found the 1333 strapping and RAM ratios to be less stable at anything over 450FSB on the !975x. The !975X ASUS do 475+ a little nice with all the E6x00 cores I used in the past yr. If you do get a E6750, do let me know how it compares to the E6600 OC.

theonejrs, Ya, I was just bout ask bout the voltages and reads v/s as set n BIOS. The DQ6 & DS3R has a bit of vdrop so my 3.6GHz took a BIOS set of 1.47v to equal 1.41 under load or 1.44 idle. I can do 3.50 round the clock @ 1.38v (set as 1.43v), 1.41v idle.

I also read a lot of guys talking bout the 2nd batch and so of these 6750's to not be as low volt OC'n as the early ones and there being a black hole of vcore usages over 1.4?? - 1.5v. I haven't seen this, but notice that as nice as these 2 6750''s do for me, they both have a big vcore difference needed when @ 3.6 up to 4.0 or even @ 3.8/3.9GHz. Just curious if this is happening to others. I actually need the 1.49v o 1 as well as a 1.51v on another to keep 4GHz. i'm gonna retest w/ ThermalRight Ultra 120 on the DS3R to see if I can get it more stable. The 1.5+ pushes the lmit on the CNPS9700's at even 2600rpm to keep it @ 4GHz.

So far heat has not been an issue. I suspect the closer you get to 4.0GHz, the steeper the hill becomes. I also think the hill starts about 3.5GHz. I'm betting that the real voltage limit is 1.5v as they say on Intel's site! I'm at 1.450v in the settings which gives me about 1.41 or so under load. I know in my heart that there's more in the chip. At 3.50GHz, I'm impressed with my re-builder times compared to the 4300. Everything is faster and it multi-tasks like a dream, and the temps are low as hell! This things been on most of the day and it's still idling at 27-28C. At this voltage setting it hits 52C running Orthos! About the same as the 4300 did at 3.2GHz.

I'm happy with it for now but pretty soon I have a MB and CPU package for someone who wants a cheap guaranteed upgrade to 3.2GHz with a C2D. I should have a P35-DS3R, in a week or two! All they'll have to do is install it and tweak their memory a bit! It's all set up anyway!

I can only guess that the thermal rating is about the same as your 4300 was, since the voltage increase is higher, but the speed increase is lower.

The thermal rating for the E4300 was 85 for the E6750 it's 75. It runs much cooler at higher speeds than the 4300 does. So far the temps haven't gone up very much. Load temps have gone up about 6C from 44 to 52C. Besides, Intel says on their site that the max voltage for the E6750 is 1.5v, so I'm still not there. I'm sure it's going to hit 3.6 to 3.8GHz on the P35 MB. If you know anybody who wants a MB and CPU combo, that's how I plan to sell the old (???) one! The CPU still has 2.5 years left on it's warranty and it should hit 3.2GHz with no problem!

well with an 866mhz higher start speed, I should hope so!
As cool as that sounds, I still find it quite amusing that with the base model CPU we had effectively got a CPU above the performance level of pretty much any out there!

NuckNFuts,

thanks for the info. I'm probably just wishfull thinking at least for now. I'm very happy with my E6600, but would like to see it's temp a little lower. it's idling at 41 C right now with the ambient temp being 77 F. it will get into the upper 40's to low 50's under load and the core temps have bumped 60 a few times. during the winter months when the ambient is around 70 F it idles around 34 C and the load temps are several degrees lower as well. I use speedfan to reduce the speed of my chipset fans a little. if I run them at full, the cpu temp drops a couple degrees but at the cost of more noise.

my money would most likely be better spent on a thermalright ultra 120 extreme. got to put tires on the car 1st though.

I don't know what sort of comparison this is, but an E4300 raised from 1.8 to 3.0, and the voltage upped to 1.45V (showing 1.42V) brings me idle temps of about 36-37C, and load of around 44-45. This is with all my case fans at around 500-600rpm, for several hours. That also includes the fan on my CPU as well.
I didn't even buy the Extreme version of the Ultra 120 either, just the standard one. It's streets ahead of my Freezer 7 Pro, I can run the fan at a third of the rpm of what I used to use (so far less noise) and yet my temps are about 7-8C lower across the board.

At this time of year I'd say it's between 23 and 26 (73 and 77F) - the PC is currently what heats my room, so there's a bit of 'feedback' in that respect.

what is your ambient temp? a few degrees difference in ambient temp makes a big difference on my cpu and mobo temps.

After you posted this it got me to thinking about the temps I get with the 6750. I have the AC on most days as the sun hits my side of the house (SW Corner room) until mid afternoon. I would turn on the computer and see 17C, and ever so slowly it would climb to 22C over a couple of hours. I decided to check the temperature at the air vent on the side cover of my case and discovered it's 64F or 16C. Even if the room temp is 22C. The air outlet is only 4' away from the vent and blows right at it. If I turn the AC off, as I do from mid afternoon on the temps climb to 25 to 27C. I guess I never noticed this before, or it just hasn't been warm enough.

What I had been doing in the past with my other CPU was when the MB temp hit 38C, I would turn on the air. Now it never comes close to 38C. I've turned off the air as the outside temp is starting to go down, so I'll see what effect that has on the overall temperatures since it's just 90F (32C) out!

I remember you saying a couple of weeks ago that your temps can't be below ambient, but in this case they can, only because there's a localized cold air source blowing almost directly at the side vent of the computer! Interesting!

Thanks for getting me thinking about all of this. I learned something! LOL!!

Edit:Letting the room come up to 80F (23C) checking at the side vent results in a MB temp of 37C and a CPU temp of 27C!

Well, I went in and did a little fiddling and tweaking with the memory. I turned the memory to turbo and it fattened up the memory bandwidth a bit more. Not bad considering the chipset!

I also turned my graphics settings back to Robust! It all seems to work fine!

For any interested, I'll be testing the E6750 on the DS3R under ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme.

These coolers really need to be lapped to insure the best interface with CPU IHS. You can get one already lapped from some places but will cost closer to $100.00 or $65.00 and lap yourself with a little effort. If not, expect to loose 2-3C.

How do you figure out the memory bandwidth BTW?

How do you figure out the memory bandwidth BTW?

PC2-6400 is the speed in megabytes per second the memory module can transfer data.. So having two PC2-6400 modules in dual-channel 128-bit = 2 x 6400 MB/s.
So Pc 8000 =two PC2-8000 modules in dual-channel 128-bit = 2 x 8000 MB/s. etc.
This is where cpu speed vs memory bandwidth comes into play.

With the athlon cpu's a 3% increase in cpu speed is the same as a 7% increase in memory bandwidth. That's where you reach a fine balance between cpu speed v memory bandwidth. Not sure if it's the same with Intel processors.

Ooohhh guess who is at 3.52 Ghz? lol

Don't get too excited now! LOL!! We're all about to get "assassinated" by NuckNFuts very shortly with the same chip as mine, yet! LOL!! My bet is about 3.8GHz, Stable! Heat has never been an issue in any of the overclocking forums testing this chip. It just seems to lose stability above 3.8GHz! As far as the 6400 goes, you would think the 4300 would do better given it's higher multiplier, but it runs out of gas at a bit over 3.3GHz. I'm curious! What's your temps like?

As far as the memory bandwidth goes, most of us check it with Sisoft Sandra 2007 these days. I'm very surprised by the higher bandwidth as I though that the chipset was more responsible for that. It's a good deal higher than it was with the 4300.

My temps are in the low to mid 50's. That's not core temps BTW, they are like 62-65 when running prime 95.
