Some of the backups I make of Backups do not work well. I am using TYG01 Taiyo Yudens and have a Lite-On 1633s burner. The menus appear but when I push play, the dvd stops working. It stops. N-e ideas y?

what programs are you using to burn these backups?
What burn speed are you using?
What kind of media are you using?

I am using DVD Decryptor and have the lates firmware. I burn at 4x. 4x is the only speed my Yudens support. One of them actually worked after a couple of coasters. Maybe it was a fluke. Does this happen to n-e-one else? That sometimes it works and sometimes it does not?

Akazecks,

What we are suggesting is to download this DVD Identifier to find out who manufactured your DVD and if it's a decent quality.

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Once you have your disc identified, click the "More information" icon and see what information you're given. if you're not sure of the quality, come on back and we'll check it out for you -

Cheers,

Pete

Perhaps it could be the DVD player itself not being able to read the DVD backups properly. Do you mean the DVD writer does not read backup and/or your standalone player for your TV? Try it on another model like on your friends and also try burning at 2X to see if that helps.

How old is your stand alone dvd player and what's the brand name? Have you tried/tested the "new backed up copy" you made on your computer to see if it plays successfully without a glitch in prior to stick it in the dvd player? Perhaps, try to burn at either lower speed[if your stand alone player is 2 years or older] or try to go faster like 8X[if the player is new] and see what's the results. It could possibly be that your player is new and it's more capable of the +R.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

I have a zenith that is less than a year old. The writer doesn't read it, the player does. Now, some of the movies skip, not a big skip, like for a sekond. I think it may be these Taiyo Yudens. But isn't that the best media?

So do fakes still say TY in DVD Identifier? If so, how do you know they're fake?

Heh, heh there squizzle, sounds like the beginning of a great stand-up comedy routine :)

I believe the discs are Taiyo Yuden's and that they are fine BUT I have some TY's that are from an older formula and didn't burn well at 4X. I couldn't tell you why, BUT at 2.4X you could write 4464MB to them all day long and they did keep data well. -

Go Figure . . .

I really want to know the answer to my question. I bought a batch of Ritek G04 right about the same time they started talking about the fakes and they acted really goofy. Buffer only worked at 50%, X Copy got really weird (which actually led me to get rid of X Copy altogether), but every ID program said RitekG04.

Hi squizzle,

I never really had very good luck with my litey and G04's. The branded ritek ridata dvd+r's are a different story. No problem with the ridata +r's whether they are ricohjpn or ritek R03. You've probably seen this before from me (maybe sick of seeing it) but litey's actually perform a little better with +r media, and I happen to know you have a litey (411@811 I think). Hehe, don't take that wrong, no harm intended.

It's all good Mort!

I prefer -R over +R...well, actually my PS2 prefers it. I personally couldn't care less. I tried some Ridatas once, made 3 coasters out of 3 but they were -R. At least I was told by my boss they were Ridatas. They didn't say anything on them and that was before I knew you could use software to identify them. Anyway, my boss wasn't all there in the head at times if you know what I'm sayin', so who knows what they really were. I've gone through about 300 G04's so far, not one coaster that was process related.

squizzle,

As you have stated, one of the rare exceptions in DVD playing is that PS2 and XBoxes love -R media over all else.

Otherwise, the DVD ROM is the widest accepted disc for standalone and PC players.

I am going to add that to my material on the DVDPlusVideo Web site.

Thanks much for the reminder - I would have forgotten all about it -

Pete

Jeez... I hate this really. These are supposed to be the best. Yeah, I got them from supermediastore. It's like a game with these discs, sometimes they are flawless and sometimes they skip, really hateful.

i gotta say, im never buying unbranded again...

the last 200 or so have been ritek traxdata - brilliant performance and being branded you pretty much know they are genuine...

my guess is the flooding of fake TY disks is killing TY name...

the ones from supermediastore are definitely genuine, perhaps you have gotten a bad batch?? i helped another member a few days ago about some bad TYGO1s in the dvd-media forum.

even with TY, they have their good days and their bad days, every manufacturer has faulty discs that slip through sometimes.

i have that same liteon in my 2nd computer, at least for me, none of the TYGO1s have been bad, perhaps i'm somewhat lucky? i've gone through well over a thousand of the TYGO1s and hundreds of the TYGO2s. perhaps it's something with backing up a backup that the lite-on doesn't like? i've never actually tried to backup a backup on my lite-on, but, i don't see what else could be the problem unless your particular batch of TYGO1s is faulty.

@Mort: I've tried to booktype my +RW as DVD-ROM, I tried to do it with the LiteOn booktype utility ver. 1.3.5

I can click Change and it says successful, but next time I burn it's still a +RW. Haven't tried Decrypter's booktype setting yet.

[Edit] Decrypter says that +R and +RW are both changed to DVD-ROM, but when AnyDVD info window pops up it still says +RW.

They should be good though. I mean, if they are a bad batch, they probably shouldn't work at all u know and they play on my ps2. And ps2 is the pickiest u know.
