Hey All,
Not long ago I was looking for a way to make those ps2 cd games burn and read on/as dvds for my (modded) ps2. My chip is a bit temperamental with cds, sometimes I'll have to do a double reset multiple times to get the CD games to work and when they do the laser strains so much it's not funny, I can't stand to listen to it.

Anyway I had found a thread on this forum that directed me to this page: http://home.versatel.nl/joeriroels/Download/download.html and after something like step 2 I found I couldn't install cdvgen. It was at this stage I realised what I was left with: an image, patched to burn as a dvd-r. I then implemented a technique I had learned previously (also on this forum), that being the UDF/ISO dvd option in nero (Gratitude of a massive proportion goes out from me to whoever worked that one out).

So, the steps were:

- Open the image in ISO buster and copy the files to a folder
- Patch the relevant files with DVD Scanlite 3.5
- New project in Nero: UDF/ISO DVD (The last option)
- Drag files into Nero in the order they appear in ISO buster
- Burn

I've made 4 sucessful discs out of 4 so far. 3 of them (SVC Chaos (PAL), Sega Ages vol 16: virtua fighter 2 (JAP) & Gekisha Boy 2 (JAP)) didn't work when I tried to back them up on cd-r and the 4th one (Marvel vs Capcom 2) loads much better on dvd then it did on the cd copy.

If you're having trouble with the guys tutorial on that page, give this a shot. My technique is time saving, easy and just might allow your laser to go on reading that little bit longer.

That's all well and good, but I have Nero 6 and it wont let me put the files in the same order they have them in Iso buster. I'm backing up Lego Star Wars and whenever I try to input the "sys" folder, it takes the top of the list in Nero, when it's in fact the 4th item down on the iso. I've tried messing around with the arrange function and all that to no avail. Does the "sys" folder HAVE to be in the same place it was on the iso?

I've also got the same problem... I can't seem to place them in the same order using Nero. I've tried to burn, but no go. The white "PlayStation" logo apears (faster then usuall) and looks like the game is booting but then the game freezes. Big black screen of nothing.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm going to keep trying as I have a whole lot of CD PS2 games that just don't work on my system which I would like to backup to DVD.

Thanks

I have Nero 6 as well, although the files/folders appear in a different order, if you drag them in the order they appear in ISO buster then that is the order in which they will burn. It doesn't look right but trust me it is :)

For the other problem that white playstation screen, I'm not sure what's happening there. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what my mod chip is, I just got a shop to install the highest quality one they had (the shop just calls them low quality, good quality, high quality etc). All the games I've made using the udf/iso tend to flash the ps2 screen much faster then usual, but they always load. I'm not sure I understand what isn't working here so I apologise for that.

That's exactly what I'm talking about... the "PlayStation 2" logo that appears and disappears much faster then usual. However, now I'm thinking that the game is not booting at all.

From what I've been reading, I think perhaps it has something to do with the volume label that I'm using. I looks like the volume label has to match the original or else the game won't boot up. Is that correct?

I'm going to try again today with the original volume label and see if this works. Anything else I need to make sure I do in order to get this working?

Thanks

Thanks Vermyapre I have sucsuffly backed up all the CD roms I have with your method and they work great. I also was having trouble with burrning the CD-roms as CD-roms and my PS2 reading them. But all is well after doing the method you do. Again Thanks!

For those of you who are having trouble do exactly what it tells you to do. And yes drag them in the order they show in ISObuster. Nero will put them in a diffrent order but they will burn the order you drag them in.

Lego Star wars is 1 of them I did and it works perfect. So keep trying it will work!

Did you open each subfolder when you used DVDScan 3.7? It wont scan subfolders. you have to open each folder and scan the files in each folder as well.

Are you also using DVD blank media to copy onto?

Just going over the steps with you 1 more time. You made the ISO image extracted it into a folder with ISObuster.

When you scan the saved files are you sure you are putting a dot in the DVD Radial circle in scanlite 3.7?

Then scan all files and sub files.

Then open up Nero and go to DVD-ROM UDF/ISO drag each item into Nero in the order that ISO buster has them listed.

Also make sure there is a tick in the NO MULTISESSION radial under the multi Tab section. It might not be finliazing your disc.

It work! Backed up both Tetris Worlds and Lego Star Wars to DVD.

My problem was exactly what was mentioned... I wasn't scanning the sub folders with DVD Scanlite.

Once sub folders scanned and patched for DVD-r, I burnt using Nero and voila!

Perfect! Thanks again guys, this is great.

What does this mean and what order do I put them in (if it even matters) thax

I did try his way, and I know it should work, but every time I try to open the img with ISO buster it says
"Primary Volume Descriptor (PVD) is unreadable.
read error at address: 16
Device reported error: 5/64/01"
I also just found out all the LBA values I got is screwed, so I just need to know how to get the image to open. Thanks

thank you very much, this technique worked GREAT!!!!. Very simple. i have read others, including creating a dummy file, which didnt work. (i have no clue why) i'd rather have all on dvd, cd's spin way to fast. plus its great only having to use 1 disk boot up, instead of switching from cd to dvd.

thanks for the great work

I tried this technique yesterday and could not get it to work. For some reason my ps2 stopped reading the ps2 cd games. I agree that the cd spins much faster and it sound like the laser has to work a lot harder to read the cd as the game plays. What I did was Copied all files and folders from the cd to a folder on hard drive. I then used the scan dvd lite scanned all the files and and subfolders. Here is where I get a little lost I don't have Nero burning rom loaded so I opened up Nero express and did a dvd data disc project selected files to burn got a message about multisession and selected no multi session. Tried to startup and got invalid ps2 disc. The only other thing I can try is load Nero burning rom then look for dvd udf\iso option and try again. This is the only thing I did different.
