I think my response to the question about Code Warrior For PS2 Ver.R3.04 may have been misinterpretted, perhaps I should have typed 'disc' instead of 'DVD'.If an idea/theory I put forward is not sound, could the replies to it be more informative as to why - even if PM'ed to me, to steer me, and anyone else interested,in the right direction.

@ steevensk - its easy to say "just give up $50 and buy the game" but a lot of the people here have already done that. for one reason or another, they still want to be able to play a back-up or play the game off the hdd. I personally would love to play the game off of my hdd for two reasons: one, it's WAY faster than playing from disc, and two, my ps2 laser is so burned out from countless hours with games like the GTA series and Gran Turismo 2 that it can't even play games from disc anymore. i'm not about to dish out more money for another ps2, I paid the full $300 when it originally came out, so why pay again? okay okay so im not helping solve the problem yet, heres my input:
So everybody is saying the problem is the CORE.GT4 file, otherwise known as the TOC. The specific problem is that there is no header in this file. most games have a header, why not this one? Can we create a header for this file to make the game work? I still want to know if anyone has tried picking the new Toxic OS for the DMS4 modchip for clues. They already solved this problem, but maybe in a way that we un-modded ps2 owners cannot. I can't answer any of these questions but hopefully they will guide someone in the right direction.

.//bodom - see my post on page 17 about the DMS4 and the toxic bios. The source code for the DMS4 chip has to be extracted from the Toxic Bios update CD, then debugged in the APA075's IDE from Actel. The source code will have a header or configuration data at the start of it - to set the FPGA into program mode/flash update, which could be found by comparing the Toxic Bios update to the official DMS4 bios update - the data would be the same - or from sample source code for the FPGA or datasheet.

People are still babbeling very interesting, like they can crack this game. I think it is a waste of time and leave the cracking of this game to professionals.
I bet, IF the game gets cracked, it would not be someone from this forum.
So stop babbeling like you guys are really smartass crackers.
Please post only if you make this game playable from a HDD.
In the meantime, buy this game! Its worth every dollar!

i think gt 4 is a stupid boring game like all of them except for gt2. i just want to see it cracked because all new games will be encrypted like it is. also i do not think people should have to pay 50 bucks for any game because they cost less then 5 dollars to make but they can charge what they want because they have no competition. apparently the game is playable on hdd if it is used with a network adapter and you have a dms4 modchip, but i am pretty sure a complex flattening procedure is neccessary first.

It is funny to read your posts guys....
There are lot of games which are not worth the money, but in my opinion if there is PS2 game which you should buy than it is GT4.
'Couse you are talking about backing-up, but we all know what is this good for. So, my suggestion is, please take your girlfriends to the park, drink less and smoke less through the weekend, save some money and I am sure, that you will be able to buy this game in a shop.
This would be also a great feedback for the creators of the game and a motivation to create an even better GT5 (maybe for PS3 and with destroyable cars ;P
Just think about it.
PS: I love the Nurnburg Ring Track !!!!! [Quote]
it's funny reading your post!!
so heres my suggestion f***k your girlfriend more...drink more beer.add a few joints to the concoction, and another piece of advice...DON'T ASSUME we are all pirates here in this forum!!!majority of us ACTUALLY DO have the original GT4,where in the LAW does it state we cannot make 1 back up of our original?? most of us have kids, kids and discs don't mix....you say put them where your kids can't find them....yeah right, think about it...you was once a kid, unless you still are....

@ steevensk
I will say this once again: We're NOT pirates here. I happen to own two copies the original GT4 and that's why i want to back it up! My first copy got destroyed and i had to buy another. I'd have been much happier if my backup had been destroyed so all i had to do was make another one instead of having to spend ANOTHER 50 bucks on it. that's now just over $100 i've spent on the game. I buy, then i back up, i do NOT pirate. Most of us here own an original, that's how we back it up. Can't make a back up without the original. We do this to protect our investment not to be cheap software theives.
Peace, Love, and Zippos

Hmmmmmm...so you are telling people not to look further into GT4,but then you said at the very end only if someone can make it playable from the HDD.You lost me,doesn't make any sense to me since you know somebody has to be a test dummy. If you want it playable from the HDD then work on getting ToxicOSv0.3 on hdloader or stop crying about people atleast trying to get the game to work, because that is your only way besides DMS4 modchip with Toxic V3 update. If you don't have anything good to say,you shouldn't post easy as that.I just said that not that long ago also in another post.GT4 probably won't be cracked from these forums, you are probably right but who said the information wouldn't be leaked on afterdawn when it does actually exist. You even said it yourself you wanted someone to tell you how to get GT4 to work off the HDD.That is pretty ignorant if you ask me,too lazy to look for the answer yourself. If you can read you can see it doesn't exist for HDD yet,it has to come from the ToxicOS Version 0.3.The current hdloader available is only the ToxicOSv0.2 so if you can't stand it then you should go play with yourself and leave the rest of the people alone. This is why this thread keeps getting so cluttered up,becuase people like to drop in make messages in a pissed off mood making the thread look shitty as hell. The thread is already long as hell am I right,so why make yourself look like a child malestor!!!so go get a cavity search to waste time instead of making none sense posts.Sorry for the other people that actually read this and are interested with backing up GT4,just kinda pisses me off to see someone so lazy and undetermine to even read a little before making a post that insults everyone here.

@ dasha74 - thanks, sorry i overlooked that post. I'm glad you decided to use the Toxic bios to solve this problem, i'm sure it'll make it a lot easier than figuring it out from scratch! If you figure it out, post some instructions! thanks man.
@ flypaper - gt4 works with hd loader? thats a bold statement my friend, care to back it up with, say, a link to a compatibility site or somewhere that proves this? post a link or some more info or something por favor, we would all like to know this is true.

Hi everyone, been reading this forum since it started waiting in anticipation for a genius to do the impossible. I was just browsing the net on an unrelated subject and come across a web site. It's an italian web site that has just released a patch for gt4, NTSC and PAL, a few hours ago for the use of the HDD without DMS4. Got no idea if it works or not cause I can't read Italian and some of the translations using google make no sence. But I did manage to translate that some people say it works and others say it don't, so don't know. Also, it supports what L-Burna has been saying that CORE.GT4 is the problem as the patch is applied to this file. May be something to look into, if it does or doesn't work at least we know.

yeah a swap magic fix would be great for those of us with no modchip. I'd really prefer not to have to buy this game a third time. It's a great game and all but i'm not sure it's worth buying three times!

to L-Burna...was going to post on alucards :) but i see your here g'day mate :)
you know me from the GT4 forum at afterdawn....samuels,listen,as stated before,i'm no expert when it comes to PS2 ripping, but was just wondering,is there a tool out there for, what would be a good description*scratches head* buggered if i know *L* but to cut it short, are there files that are linked in say GT4,because i know you can reduce the amount of space on xbox games using a proggy called qwix, just wondering if any files in ANY ps2 games can be linked, for example splinter cell -chaos theory (xbox) had quite a few linked files,i used qwix, but it wasn't quite enough to reduce files to fit on a dvd5...in the end i had to take out the foreign language folders and files

Done link should work now,for some reason the first time I uploaded the file it didn't give me the right reference. It should work now,so try it out alright crowy.Yeah I know what you mean samuels I wish it was as easy as Xbox, but I think what you are trying to do is transfer a image from the PS2 cd/dvd rom drive to the computer by FTP am I right. That would be sweet no lie,you would have to go through ps2link somehow not sure if one exists besides hdd apps that pull an image to the hdd inside the PS2.I wish there was a app like Quix for PS2,because Quix kicks ass no lie for the Xbox man.I use it all the time, and prefer it more than Craxtion sometimes.Although Craxtion does have the multi-game support which is cool also.I don't think it is possible though unless some programmer made an app adjusted to work as mentioned bro.It is a cool thought, and I would love to see something like that.I bet in time it will exist, but I have no clue to be honest I haven't seen anything like that.Editing the files in a Dvd9 PS2 game is alot harder than Xbox bro.Sony is starting to compress all the movies,music,etc... in compressed .pak,.vol files new protection. In a Xbox game the files are not compressed into a munge file you can get to them fairly easy. The two games that I have seen the newest protection on are God of War and this game GT4.What happens is the actual two .VOL files are actually one file, since it is on a dual layer disc the burner keeps burning that same file to the second layer. It is actually just one big munge file to be honest, when a dual layer is burned it switches layers on the burn.Any other game that is on Dvd9 can either be put on two Dvd5 discs or has the same file structure on both layers so you can extract the first layer and not even use the second layer.I agree ZippoGuy a swap magic fix would be cool as hell no lie man.I am thinking it will come in due time though, just gotta wait it out and be patient man.I will keep looking at http://www.alucard.cc and all over to place to see if there I can find a fix for swap magic.

Hi, bothersome me again. I read somewhere on here about backing up GT4 to 2x DVDs, is this right? Can someone post a link or reference to how to do this, if its not too much trouble.
Thanx
Also, I have been reading through the GT4_HDD_DVD9 Patch that Lburna posted ... It says in there that:
Quote: The ?VOL? integrity check that they put into the SLUS to check for modified VOL files has already been removed
.
If this is the case ... Would it still not work if the patched iso was burned back onto a DL DVD regardless of 'PTP / OTP' or any other checks that are performed and run perfectly? ... Or am I simply barking up the wrong tree??
I know that samuels has stated on various occasions that OTP and PTP are not the issue, but I have been reading various forums, and some say that this is the issue. Since I know nothing about these things, I'm tryin to keep an open mind.
One last question ... This maybe a really stupid question but; when a DL DVD is burned, is it burned as an entire disc, or can you burn one layer in one session and then the 2nd layer in another session? I have never tried so I do not know myself.
Sorry for boring anyone.

Hopefully the link to the download for the hdd guide and tools for NTSC users doesn't die,but I switched it a couple times and made it pretty accessible so if the link dies and doesn't work.Sorry I can't really help you out,you would have to get it from ps2-scene.org or either some site that is hosting it ok.I can't really monitor the link so if it dies don't worry about it,just grab it from ps2-scene.org or whatever is available.

Gran Turismo 4 has been patched to play on HDLoader/HDAdvance.
Meaning, you dont need to have a dms4 chip in your console with the toxicos. The files can be found over at ps2hd.com forums.
http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1032
In no doubt this means there will be a coming gt4 iso patch allowing the backup to be played from disc.
