Yep, they can, because I own the DS3R and am using that feature right now.

I don't even think you do, I think it's supported natively with the BIOS it ships with.

I'm not real sure where you got your information but the only way an E4300 can can keep up with and even exceed the performance of an E6850 or for that fact an E6750 is in percentage of overclock! I know, I just replaced an E4300 with an E6750 on the same motherboard, a GigaByte GA-965P-DS3 Rev. 1.33. The 6750 easily hits 3.5GHz+ with my present memory while the 4300 has problems much above 3.2GHz. Makes you wonder just how rigged the CPUs were that were supplied by Intel to Tom's Hardware when they did their initial E4300 review and claimed 3.6GHz on air! I also don't know anyone that has better stepping then L2 and I believe the stepping used in Tom's Hardware was B1! I also had no problems getting to 4.0GHz with 1066 memory on a gigaByte GA-P35-DS3R Rev. 2.0 motherboard, although I consider the voltage requirement too high at that speed and won't run it over 3.8GHz.
I also put the E4300 in that same board and it runs out of gas at a little over 3.2GHz. I've had the 4300 to just a hair under 3.4GHz but it won't pass ORTHOS for 12 hours! The big problem is heat as at about 3.3gHz the cores start pouring out the heat and go a bit crazy. The 4300 is a reliable chip good to around 30,000 MIPS, but the 6750 is good to better than 32,000 and that's at 3.5GHz. I can't wait to see what it does at 3.8! Both the 6750 and 6850 are excellent overclockers and have no heat issues. The 6850 is the fastest Dual-Core in the world at stock speeds and from what I'm told by some of the members here will out clock the Q6600 Quad when overclocked!
In the real world, the 4 MB cache makes all the difference in the world and is most apparent when encoding video with CCE. Considering that CCE is a single threaded app, that's pretty amazing!

sorry, but i was talking about the E2180, thought i has made that clear. yes it can keep up, but it has to be OCed. the difference in real world EG browsing, playing the odd game etc, would be minimum. benchies show the E6850 ahead, but im talkign baout real world, when the E2180 is OCed to E6850 speeds.

abuzar1,
Your memory should run at 900MHz using the 2.0 multiplier at 3.6gHz. Mine will run at that speed but Orthos will eventually crash! That's why I want the 1066 Crucial Ballistix Tracer memory. I can get to 4.0GHz using that! Have you run Orthos or Prime95 on it at for a few hours (at least) to see if it crashes? A2 doesn't make any sense for the revision number. Look at the bottom rear corner of the MB, just behind the mounting screw and you will see the revision marked in white letters (Rev. 2.0 or 1.0), right along the back. If it's a Rev. 2.0 it will have 8 usb ports on the rear of the computer and no printer port. There will also be only 2 internal headers instead of 4 on the MB for additional external usb ports. There should be another header (Black) for the optional printer port. It should look like this!

Russ, I don't see a printer port so I guess it is Rev2.

The current revisions do. That's the old version of the board I believe. Besides, you can't use all 6 RAM slots at once, since two are DDR3. You can't simultaneously use DDR2 and DDR3.

GTR35,
Quote: huh? R series?...i thought R series has 6 RAM slots...
That's the P35C-DS3R. The P35-DS3R supports 1066 memory but doesn't have the two DDR3 Slots.
abuzar1,

Yup, it's rev. 2.0! Great MB! my G.Skill 800MHz memory would run as high as 960MHz with the slower bussed, higher multiplier E4300, but it won't run at that speed with the higher fsb. 900MHz is about it. Once I get some 1066 Ballistix Tracers, I should be in good shape for my planned 3.8GHz. Nice work on your overclock, BTW!

I am using 800 memory so the multiplier is 2.00, and the mobo rev is A2 according to CPUZ.
That's perfect for todays CPU's and newer P35 & X38 mobos. Even the best of todays duals can barely max out 1066 in 1:1 so 1:1 as DDR1000 is a sweet spot for 500x. Besides, if running a quad, and not xtreme/hig end OC, then you'll likely nrver touch DDR1000 in 1:1 anyways.
As for deviders, my P35 & X38's don't provide down deviders, just up. Down deviders of the P965/975X were onlt really there to limit RAM OC for testing CPU or mobo FSB, and does nothing for performance, just for testing or if RAM cant OC too high. The updeviders are OK for CPU's that cant reach high FSB to add more RAM frequency to make up for it, but if CPU can hit 500FSB then god RAM at DDR1000 w/ tight timings of 4-4-4-9 is just as real world smooth feeling as DDR1200 at 5-5-5-15 but w/ CPU on less FSB but higher multi for extra clock to make up for it.
So yes, every p35 I owned and all the X38's will do DDR1000 in 1:1 as at 500FSB like a walk in the park, being CPU limited only.
As for the BIOS, most early P35's will need a flash to support the newest Penryns feature sets (ie; 0.5x multi and ACPI modes) but the FSB is already OK. On any of the newer ASUS w/ EZ-Flash, updating BIOS n the fly via a USB is a snap and easy to do as well as saving profiles.
"R" series of Gigabyte is the RAID edition. The "C" edition has the 6 slots of wich only "2" are DDR3 and other 4 are DDR2 and wich only "2" can handle DDR1200 as a "2" slot configuration. 4 slots as DDR1000 is testing OK w/ relaxed DRAM settings though.
Hope that helps!

abuzar1,

only the cas latency! I run it at 5-4-4-12 @875MHz. Gives me a nice wide memory bandwidth and speed isn't an issue. I've been a little conservative and set the CPU to 3.5GHz for now. Once I get the 1066 tracers it should do 3.8GHz at a reasonable voltage. Be a while though!

Russ

"GPU Overclockers"
K, I see a lot of you here OC GPU as well. I have the XFX 8800GT 512mb PVT88PYDD4. Can these be OC'd in the 2D area to improve BD/DVD multi media renduring? What kind of OC are these getting in general gaming as well in single card mode on Intel X38 PCI-E 2.0?
Just curious.

Most decent retail 8800GT cards (so not the default OEM brand, but rather proper brands like EVGA and Gigabyte, not the pre-overclocked versions) overclock to a performance gain of 12%.

you need to make sure that you have pure video enabled within most apps to get the most out of video play back apps.
have a quick red of this see if it helps

A bit of brand plugging there GTR?
EVGA make decent quality hardware, but right now the two graphics cards to buy I feel are the HD3870 and the new G92-8800GTS. I'll pass on the 8800GT simply because it's older tech, it's not so much faster than the 3870 that it makes up for this fact.

The new 8800GTs is not worth it. Most cases the performance is close to the 8800GT, but with a retail price of 100 USD more. Also if the 8800GT is old tech, so is the 8800GTS.
I am talking about the new G92 8800GTS BTW.
