Hi, I've burnt a couple of backups onto ritek g05's using DVD Decrypter and tried to load them in my PS2 with Swap Magic 3.6, but it keep's coming up with the error "not a valid ps2 Disc". I've checked swapmagicfix.com to see if the games need a patch, and they don't. Anyone got any advice?

I know they are. I can't see how I'm screwing this up. DVD Decrypter is so easy to use but I'm getting nada out of my PS2.

like you say, there is nothinhg special about these games, and should copy 1:1,although gta sa,may work better on dvd+r,
there are no patches, and none of these have dummy files in them,
if you are sure you are booting/swaping the disk's correctly, maybe its the disk's
the ps2 you have may not like them, are they dvd-r's?
btw,if you have no other dvd's to try,
try burning them faster,like x 4

ritek go5's only support 1x and 2x, guess I'll go buy another spindle and check. What would you suggest, more dvd-r or +r's?

depends what ps2 version you have,
i like to stick to dvd-r
if the ps2 is a version 4 or below,stick to dvd-r
see if you can get a sample pack, lots of internet sites do them.
one thing you could try,is burning a dvd film on one of the disks, see if that works, however
ps2's are picky things, and it may well read a movie image, but not the game, but at least they wont go to waste
try philips/vertabim/tdk

usually the "not valid ps2" means you didnt use your slide card or flip top correctly.which do you have?do you have a no solder mod that works with swap magic?

I'm using Swap magic 3.6 and I know I'm doing it right. The burner I'm using is second hand from ebay. I've ordered a brand new Samsung TS-H552U (dual layer burner) cause i think the crappy toshiba was the problem.

sorry to break the news to you,but samsung is probably the crappiest dvd burner on the market.toshiba is affiliated with sony i believe and unless that drive has physical damage to it i dont think its all that bad.try copying a dvd movie and see if it works.i mean if the burn program went thru the whole burn process without an error and you look at the disc and see that it was burned to then there is nothing wrong with your drive.
now about the way you are using the swap magic.could you explain how you are using it?beleive it or not there have been people who used their flip top wrong(and thats hard to do)plus there have been people who have used the cd version of swap magic instead of the dvd version on dvd games and vice versa.

I've taken the front of the cd tray off. I put swap magic dvd in and wait for it to load. I then use the slide tool to open the tray and swap it for a burned dvd. i then use the slide tool to close the tray and i press X. The disk speeds up and slows down a bit the says "not a valid ps2 disc". have also tried burning a dvd but gives me disk read error.

did you try your dvd on a dvd player(not ps2)?if you can get your dvd to play on a dvd player then you have ps2 problems.and by the way did you use swap magic to play that dvd movie?because swap magic only plays ps2 games and your ps2 will play dvd movie backups like originals.if you know that then nevermind that.

tried the dvd in a stand alone and it wouldn't work. it burned ok, so i'm pretty sure its a problem with the burner. Like i said its a second hand one from ebay so.......

As Hursty said, it's most likely NOT your burner. Try different media. I know for a fact my v12 PS2 won't read most -R DVDs, and a lot of people have this same problem.
Also, list what kind of mod you're using along with the swap magic.
You're being way too vague, and way too jumpy to get an accurate response, Kelewan.
So, before you do anything more on this, tell us what version, and what mods alongside with the burner and media you're using (which you've already told us)
This is probably a very simple media problem, at worst, a bad install of a mod. It's unlikely that your burner is wrecked, but it's possible, but we need more info before we can give you accurate information.

swap magic 3.6 with slide tool in a v9 ps2. No mod. Burnt a back up of mgs3 an san andreas onto my sony dvd-r's with a friends burner and the both work perfectly, so it's not the media. the only thing i think it is is the burner. i've burnt a dvd onto a ritek g05 and it wouldn't work in a stand alone. Also the 2 pc's in the house would see the burnt dvd's as blank (even though you could see that something was on them by looking at the back of the dvd) however both regonized the backup's burnt on my friends NEC.

Oh wow. You MAY actually have a DVD burning problem. Take your current media over to your friend's house, and see if his burner will burn onto yor discs.
Just because a media brand is supposed to be good, it doesn't always mean it is, sometimes bad batches are made, sometimes media fakes are sold. Look up Taiyo Yuden, TY's are supposed to be great discs. I bought a pack of 50 and they came out horrible. The only thing I use them is for backing up movies. And they can barely even handle that. And it's not either of my burners either, it's just the media. There's bad dye spreading on quite a bit of them.
Anyways, before chucking your burner, check the media at your friends' house. Also, burn a DVD movie on your current Riteks and see if it'll play in a standard DVD movie player.
Buying a new burner can be a hassle, and can be expensive and time consuming. If that time comes, then come back to us, so people can recommend burners.
I think we all agree that NEC, LiteOn, and all the burners in those price ranges are all pretty good for PS2 backups.
