a toc is Table Of Content(basically the game size).when swap magic ask you to refresh the toc it means to put in a ps2 original game(not backup game) with an overall game size that is bigger than the backup you are trying to play.its usually not necessary unless you are trying to play a backup that is bigger than 4gb and more specifically for games over 4.3gb.after the you put in the ps2 original and the refreshing process is done you would then swap it out(with slide card or flip top) for the backup.

you could use the midnight club dub original or any ps2 original that is bigger than 4.26gb.you could also clean(good idea to do anyway) and/or adjust(optional) your ps2 laser lens.or you could extract the game files with iso buster, usually this will make the game size smaller then put the game files one by one into Nero and burn with the udf/iso(also known as dvd-rom) option.people like to call this "rebuilding" the game(i prefer to call it extracting the game).if you dont have Nero you can click on the highlighted blue text to download a demo version.if you do decide to extract the game let me know if you need instructions.

that was just an option, but more importantly clean your lens to see if you can get the backup to work.and i never asked you exactly how your backup isnt working(can you get it to boot up?,is it freezing or skipping?)
i actually have this game and didnt need to do anything but copy it.i think you have some read issues with your ps2(they may be very minor but dvdrs are harder to read and minor problems can affect them more so than commercial discs).but i will try to see if i could do something to get the game size smaller(the farther you stay away from the edge of the dvdr the more likely not to experience read problems, this is true for dvd movie backups also).will let you know if i can.

well i just finished making another copy of mc3dub.i managed to get it down to 3.65gb.their is a file named padding.dat that is essentialy a dummy file.replacing this file like you would a dummy file will take off about 600mb of the overall game size.if you have Nero, after you replace the file you could then put the files in Nero and burn them.ive played this backup(with swap magic 3.3)for a little while with no problems.
again, if you need more instructions on how to do this let me know.

its definitely a dummy file.i played the backup and there is no difference from the original.i selected all the options(career,arcade,etc..) and everything worked fine.
usually when you extract the game files with iso buster and the game size doesnt come out smaller, odds are you can find a dummy file that you can replace(with the exception of dl games).i went on a hunch thinking padding was refering to pad or bulk something up.they arent getting too bright about concealing dummy files.

i used notepad.when you open up notepad you hit the space bar giving you 1kb of data.then you select "save file as" in the file drop down menu.name the file padding(dont put the extention on it)save to the folder where the game files are(you delete the original padding file before you do this).go to the folder and rename the file from padding.txt to padding.dat(i used capital letters like the originnal) and thats it.then you put the files one by one into neros (udf/iso option) then name the disc the same as the iso image(without the extention) and burn.also have iso buster open for reference to file order

I am having a problem with Xenosaga Episode 2. The game has 4.36GB, and I used to refresh TOC Time Splitters 2 which has 4.38GB but the game still crashes on the movie sequences. I tried to look for any dummy files but I didnt find any possible files. If anyone knows how to bypass this please tell me how, thanks in advance.
Cheers!

Is it possible to extract and re-encode the movies to minimally reduce the TOC?
