Just for anyone else with a Liteon recorder - I applied the patch/hack to my model and it worked great. As I understand, LiteOn makes Ilo. Now, if I could only get a hack for the Sanyo DRW500 <g>
Everyone has a photographic memory - some are just missing the film!

I've downloaded the ILO/LiteOn Smart Firmware Hacker and followed the instructions carefully. When I press the "Select Firmware File" button then selected the firmware. The program keeps coming back with an error message "could not find Macrovision Hex String" What am I doing wrong?? Thanks!

I've just got a Liteon 5045 and want to copy some old VHS tapes to DVD before they wear out. These are music instruction tapes and solely for my own use. The tapes are fairly old although some have copied successfully whilst others send out what sounds like a dial tone signal which turns off the recorder HDD or DVD. Is there any way of preventing this.

lb_uk,
Go to my download site and select "Other Helpful Information and Links". You will find a link to download hacked firmware for the 5045. It will disable the MacroVision sensing in the recorder so you can back up your tapes.
Or click here:

Good luck

Thanks Gtrman, ran upgrade on my 5045 using your modified firmware and everything works fine. tapes copied with no problem.
Although I only have region 2 DVD's would it benefit me to set the 5045's region code to region 0 (multi-region)

lb_uk,
Yes, you should go in and set the region to region free. If you have a US model, the firmware would have done this already. If your model was any other region, the firmware would have subtracted it by 1. You would then need to use the setup 2960 remote code to set the region.
Press "Setup" on remote
Highlight "Exit" (do not press enter)
Press "2, 9, 6, 0" on the remote (do not press enter)
A new menu should appear and allow you to change the region settings.

OK, I just got an ILO DVR04 after a month of pure heck with the 05 model. I upgraded the firmware in the following order:
1. WMEA1097.E20
2. WMEA1098.ES5
Then I found the LP/MV hack (WMEA1098.ES5 hack) (all I really needed was LP) and ran it. Did I do everything in correct order? Everything seems to be OK so I think I did, just wanted verification since I was very tired and groggy when I did it.
Thanks!

GoofusKAC,
You did one extra step you didn't need but got to the same outcome. You didn't need to do the first 1098 update, just the hacked one. You were right to do the 1097 update first to get the drive update from that one. If you have the LP 3-hr mode, you did it right.

Hi, me again! I applied the hacked firmware but now the tv guide function will not work. It comes up blocked out. Does that have something to do with the region free setting? How can I make this work again as we are needing to record the shows we like to watch again. One is on tonight so I have to get this fixed today. Please help! Thanks!

It may have something to do with region free. Use the remote region code to set the recorder back to region 1 and see if the guide starts working again. Go to setup, highlight exit (don't press enter), press 2, 9, 6, 0 on the keypad (again do not press enter). A new region settings screen will pop up. Reset the recorder to region 1.

I installed the hacked firmware on my liteon lvw-5007 and it works great. My question is, I have noticed on the liteon home page that there is a new update for this model. Should I download it and use it, or not?? Thanks!!

Thanks!!

Gtrman, I recently purchased the liteon lvw 5115ghc+ do you happen to have any hacks for this model yet? I picked it up at costco for $89. If you have any feedback on this recorder I would love to hear.

I thought I would add to this thread. I recently bought a LiteOn 5005A. I installed the hack firmware. It worked sort of. I do have the 3 hour mode and it's now region free, but the macrovision was not disabled for some reason. Just thought I'd share that.

I was going to try the ilo/liteon hack on my LVW-1101H. Two questions though --
Did KimTx ever get macrovision disabled? That part seemed not to work for her.
The instructions say to make a data disk on a CD-R. Will a CD-RW work?

I did the hack at ilohacker.tripod.com, but macrovision is still there. It was on a LVW-1101HC1. After the update, the serial number changed from (1U6x-0201) to (U06x-0201). Any help?
