Quote: @alkohol, Yes I have DVD43 also. It was only updated a few weeks ago. I have a computer built only for burning that I assembled from spare parts. The desktop looks like a recording studio. I built the spare PC so my main unit wasn't tied up while burning. So YES I have tried most of the programs in use. I keep coming back to CloneDVD and AnyDVD because they are simple to use, usually give excellent results, and normally do not conflict with other programs (until this last batch of updates). I'll try the new versions tonight again. If they work as the older versions did, I'll be back to using them again.
Jerry
Jerry,
DVD43 definitely work and it's FREE also. Like I said earlier, I've used DVD43 on Fockers & House Of Flying Daggers and it works fine. In addition, I've also try "DVDIdle Pro 5.82" (another decent protection[s] decrypt software) and it's running smoothly like a champ. It's ironic that you have DVD43 and not able to back up, this is sort of strange to me in a way. If you have the latest version 3.5.2.113 then it should do the job easily. Yes.... that is what I have and I've used it to back up "House Of Flying Daggers, Spanglish, Suspect Zero, The Grudge, Elektra, Meet The Fockers, The Incredibles, etc." flawlessly.
Did you backed up or compress/shrink or clone right away when you inserted the original dvd into your dvd-rom/drive? If so, then you're likely to fail to back up 100%. DVD43's tutorial said; you need to insert original dvd into the drive, then let it play for at least "35 seconds - 2 minutes" using any of your players (i.e. Windows Media, PowerDVD, WinDVD), then DVD43 will detects the copy protection, you'll see a "angry/red devil face" icon on your lower windows taskbar ---->> this eventually will turn into a "green smiley face". Now, this you can do a back up, shrink or copy the dvd while it's running in the background. If after you've inserted the original dvd into your dvd-rom/drive/burner and DVD43 did not run or detect it at all, then go to Start, Program, DVD43, then Click on DVD43 to run. You'll see the devil face like I've stated above, waited for it to turn green, then do your usual copy/back up sequences. Note: if you run DVD43 and it fails to detects/bypass the original - meaning no green face after more than 3 minutes of playing the movie, then you need to Re-start your computer and follow the above steps. Hope this help.

@alkohol, Thanks for the reply. I said nothing about not being able to backup any dvd. There hasn't been one yet I haven't been able to do. We were talking about the beta versions of CloneDVD and AnyDVD not working right. I know most of the different ways and different programs to use. CloneDVD and AnyDVD have always been my first choice but at present time they don't work right. Thanks again for you input. The only time I haven't been able to rip a movie was because of a NEW defective original. Once exchanged I ripped it just fine.

It appears no one uses dvd region + CSS free prgm, which also does what AnyDVD does. I personally have had no problem backing up any current new releases with shrink, decrypter and with dvd region + css free running in background... just my two cents should anyone want to try it..

I had no problem backing this one up, but I too was disappointed in the movie. I watched it and then it went straight to the trashcan.

Ok, ok so the movie sucked! Point is- AnyDVD and also Clone DVD used to be very good programs. Now that they have so called updated the programs ( several times in the past few days I might add ) they have screwed it up so bad to the point that neither program works anymore for any DVD what-so-ever! Sometimes when you have a great thing, you just leave it alone dam it. Now Sly Soft has me to the point, I don't even use their program anymore and on every site that does product reviews, I sure as H**L give them a good one.

Just give it time, they'll work out the bugs. Since they went from version 4.x.x.x on AnyDVD to 5.0.0.0, that means they made some major overhauls. The updates following that were most likely bug fixes. I haven't had any problems with any versions of this program, so I strongly believe the problems everyone's experiencing are not because of AnyDVD alone, but maybe in combination with certain other programs. I'll bet within a week it'll be better.
I can't speak for CloneDVD2, as I don't use it. But I'd bet that's the same type of situation.

I backed up Meet the Fokers using DVD Shrink in Reauthor mode for movie only. Bypassing the "Unreferenced Material" left out the little running guy in the green shorts, which would have prevented copying the entire disk without Decryptor or AnyDVD. So if you just want the movie, Shrink reauthor does fine! Then burn with Nero or Decryptor.

I'm still having problems buring this movie. I ripped itwith the latest version of DVD Decrypter and that went fine. Then I tried to use CloneDVD( version 1.2.8.4) to burn, but 6 DVDs (TDK and Philips) have all failed. It starts the burning process and never gets past 0%. Looking at all the wasted DVD's you see that it tried to do something since the dye has changed colors about .5 inch from the center. CloneDvd says DVD write error (writedvd9). I never had this problem with over 100 other DVD's. Them say thing happened when i went to burn Sky captain and the world tomorrow. I have plenty of HD space and I even updated my Sony 710a Firmware, but no luck... any advice?

@foxdie - sounds like a classic case of crap media to me. I've not used CloneDVD before but your comments suggest it's crappy media. Post your media details.
i copied Meet the Fockers (region 2 ) on day of release - zero problems (used just DVD Shrink). Watched it thru 100% (really great film, very funny). Anyway i digress

I've used TDK for the last 2 years with no problems of this kind. These DVDs came from a spindle of 50, the first 40 dvds from the spinde burned 100% fine.

Foxdie, since you already state you have been able to burn successfully, have you tried burning with another program? Do you not have AnyDVD and that is why you ripped to your hardrive instead of using CloneDVD to encode and burn? Try using Shrink and then Decrypter to burn to see if it is a problem with CloneDVD2 or with your media.

If you use Shrink and remove the Extra's, can you keep the menu intact? I thought you couldnt keep the menu's if you take out the Extra's... I like CloneDVD because its straight forward and user freindly(you dont have to mess with editing VOB or nfo files in order to keep menu's and remove the Extra's)

No you cannot keep the menus in Shrink re-author mode, I just suggested that you try burning with another program in order to rule out the media being the problem. You can always try using another brand of media with CloneDVD2, or try uninstalling and re-installing Clone. I too use CloneDVD2 because you can preserve the menus.

....and foxdie, if that doesn't prove successful, let us know details of your TDK's. I maybe mis-phrased what i meant in my previous reply where i said maybe it was crap media. What i should have said was, is that i believe ppl have mixed success with TDK. It's always worth ruling out media as a cause, especially as whenever someone says "it's not my media", that jinxes it lol :)
