do it with both drives but 1 drive at a time, process of elimination. strong possibility is the motherboard soundcard is the problem but not certain

if this is a fairly new PC you don't need all those little grey audio cables any more to the optical drives, sound just goes thru the PCI bus i think.....
still reading thru the posting...

Hi,
Just a quick note. If you are running XP-Pro w/SP-2 you don't need the audio cable. Try and un-plug the audio cable and see if the headphone jack works. If it is reversed, it may knock out all the audio. Try an original commercial DVD and see if you have sound at the headphone jack. Some copy programs are tricky when it comes to sound. I recomend DVD Shrink 3.2 with Nero 6.0 installed. Be careful what you turn off. I prefer to re-author and copy only the main movie. Again, be careful as some DVDs have both full screen and wide screen on the same disk so there will be a couple of main movie titles.
Good Luck,
Russ

Hi again,
I forgot! Go to sounds in the control panel. Make sure that the icon is turned on in the taskbar. Double click on the taskbar icon and a window will open top left. Make sure both the wave and midi are turned up fully as with XP the volume controls for the CD do nothing. Make sure that the mute is unchecked and move the slider all the way up.
Sincerely,
Russ

theonejrs, the cable is reversed in what way?? also has nothing to do with xp or sp2 as i've had board work with an audio cable & without in win9x so is not windows specific.
