nuff respek, ppl.
I have lived in a small secluded room on a linux box doing my work for like the last year, and I have no idea about this battlefield game except that it was supposed to be good. How good, and just to tie it into the thread - are there benchmarks for it anyplace?

Pulsar started this whole argument when he said IIRR has an attitude. Now lets all let it go and focus on how great BF2 is.

I think he has a fascination for intel and was waiting for his knight in shining armour to come to his aid and say yes intel is great. Well they should be with that kind of market share, shoulddnt they?

ok, my apologies pulsar. so lets talk about processors. i was thinking of getting an AMD 64 but it is pretty much wasted resources since you cant get a 64 bit OS yet (unless its crappy beta)to run it on. I am all for AMD over intel, it just seems silly that AMD would bring out a processor that cant be utilized for another long while. I guess the fact that its cheaper than intel and in future will be the norm, but at the moment, in todays world, the intel P4 can do just as good a job. whadda YA RECKON?

Well the AMD Athlon 64 is cheaper, cooler, awesomer. Like you said, 64 bit Windows is still a light year away(I know that that's distance not time:) However the Athlon 64 series run 32 bit Windows just fine, and when 64 bit comes out, you won't have to run out and buy a 64 bit compatible CPU. All you gots to do is to upgrade Windows

Actually Microsoft has a 64 bit version of XP out to buy and as far as i know there's a few 64bit Lynx OS's out there.

Isnt it beta tho? I wouldnt really trust my main computer running a beta OS, and as for Linux, to technical for me. I like everything nice and interfacey

Yes your right, MS do have a 64 bit OS but its beta, and laccks heaps of things normal xp has, eg, windows media player, ability to burn to CD's, etc. But i have to agree with skidme. Hopefully they wont charge an arma nd a leg to buy the upgraded 64 bit OS when it arrives.

Oh yeah and do u really need to buy it? I thought Microsoft was giving out free 1-year trials of it? Maybe I'm wrong...Maybe it's a different version?

Eh? Wot! ..

No 64 bit operating system? Silly AMD for bringing out a processor that no one can fully utilise? Listen dudes (I did think of another word) its not all about the Windoze operating system and directx driven games. The opteron when it first came out was just awesome, and for a multiprocessor app it was rockin. There are some very good operating systems out there that will fully utilise the 64bits of AMD stonking power and I've tried SUSE 9.2 to try one. Don't forget the server segment also that need some secure OS to stay online.

If you ask me and I know you aren't, and I don't care - I would boycot microsoft for hanging around the rear end of intel for so long and not providing the paying monopolised (exploited, used, abused, dumbed down, cheated)public with a 64 bit OS. (bah! that's my rant over)

I agree with you Molks that MS and intel should have done something about a 64 bit OS by now, maybe they are just biding their time, developing a kick ass 64bit chip as well as a 64bit OS to go with it when they launch the 64bit processor, thus pipping AMD at the post?
But what im saying is there are no readily available, 'walk into any pc store', and pick up a user friendly 64 bit OS. Not yet anyway. Hopefully soon, a 64bit OS will be as readily availbale and backwards compatible with users who are still on XP 32bit. This is why i think MS havent brought out their 64 OS yet as they are gonna launch it at the same time as their 64 bit processor, and totally cash in, while AMD users have to pay extra to upgrade their system.

Either that, or maybe they don't want to release it at the same time as Windows Vista?

is AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) a good processor to buy for gaming or pentium is better?
