It's probally not going to be as powerful as PS3 or Xbox360 so they dont want to shoot themselves in the foot.
Nintendo even said they aren't interested in the kind of gamers who care about specs.
I think that Nintendo and Sony are introducing truly new technology. Sony is bringing out the cell processor as well as introducing blu-ray dvd playback/blu-ray games. Nintendo is introducing the freehand compatability as well as the uber-backwards compatable. Xbox360 was rushed to the market and doesn't offer anything except a system upgrade.
Nintendo's hopes and dreams depend on how they offer the old Nes/snes/n64 etc games. If they charge to much per game, they will fail, especially if they dont offer a way to play the games you might already have (a special port, or a website you can get a rom for free if you input your cartages serial number)

the reason why is simple
think about it microsoft and sony are showing off consoles with some pretty major bugs not minor major
like the 360 having memory crashes and save game problems
and the ps3 will probly have the cd drive problem the hard drive problem the controller stops responding problem
so nintendo wants to release a console that is bug free and not give away to much about the console to the competitors take a look at microsoft they started the voice communication system then sony to rip off microsoft decided to creat there own voice system for online gaming
it makes you think that nintendo may have the right idea or might just get there balls cut off when it comes time to release the game

Yeah I like to call the original Xbox: Xbox Alpha, and Xbox 360: Xbox Beta, maybe the next gen it will be Xbox Final. LOL. Yet, that's what it is an upgrade.

Xbox 360 is as much of an upgrade of the Xbox as the PS3 is from the PS2.
edit** I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, either.

i think nintendo will scare the **** right out of all of us at this years e3 and so don't be surprised
i think sony is high if they think that gamers are going to spend 500.00 for a console and 60.00 a game thats insane

I wouldn't mind since it's gonna have a bluray player built in. I mean the cheapest bulray right now is about a grand.

i think the less you say the less you can be held accountable for... no one likes to shove their foot in their mouth...unless your a fetish freak..then you may like it ... also the element of mystery and surprise can go a LONG way ....

you know though that all of this is a HUGE link the reason the XBOX 360 was rushed is because Microsoft wanted to earn money in the gaming business considering it wasn't earing any money in the music business considering Apple was getting the business during that period of time with the Nano and Video iPods but Microsoft wasn't smart in one part the fact that they didn't offer many wonderful things the Revolution or the PS3 will this year. The best reason to have backwards compatibility is if ur gaming system has a past and Nintendo has a past not like the XBOX 360 or PS3 which is why i think Nintendo is gonna get alot of buyers when the release the Revolution!

I wouldn't say the PS3 and 360 don't have a past. Actually they have many good games to make backward compatibility interesting. For me getting a 360 will mean that I can enjoy many games that I couldn't before, since I never owned an original XBOX. Titles like Halo 2, Forza and Ninja Gaiden Black will be at my reach, before the 360 library grows enough.
As for the Rev, it should be fun to relive old days playing wrestling games on the N64 and maybe even Day of Reckoning for the GC. But the chance to play clasics dating back to the SNES and NES is not what I'm looking for in a next gen console. Those games are way too old for me and many other gamers. I understand some people like old games, but most of us just want our games to move forward, not backwards.

Revolution is using cheaper hardware technology which means affordable for people who cant pay 150 dollars for equipment. Also with the downloading of the NES - SNES - N64 games they are just going to touch them up for like wut they did for in Mario 64 DS.

I hope they include a hard drive with like all their NES,SNES and 64 games on it. That would be cool.

No hardrive, only 512MB of flash memory. And the classic games will be made available through their "Virtual Console" after the Rev's release. Additional storage space can be made available through SD cards.

It would be great if you could use the classic controllers too. The Super Nintendo is nothing without its controller. Although I'm not so sure how good Mario in 16 bits is gonna look on some people's 60 inch screens. I'm all for it anyway. Love to relive some of those games, aptly named 'Baseball' or 'Hockey'
