JANDERSON, here is exactly what I do. Start DVD Decrypter and I already have a folder created for the movie, (lets say Lion King) So I rip to C:/LIONKING. Make sure when you rip to select "file" under mode, then under edit, select " select all". This selects all files on DVD your ripping from. Then just rip to the "LION KING" folder. I do not name the folder "VIDEOTS". Once its finished if you look into Lion King folder you should see 12 or so files. Then follow along with instant copy copying from HD to HD. The file you selesct will be in LION KING folder and will be named VIDEOTS. Just one file. Thats it.

There is a good "How To" here:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php
I am new to this thing and this guide helped me rip the movie to hard drive then copy it DIRECTLY to DVD-R. Had no problems what so ever and it was my first time making copies.
Hope that I don't offend Dextrslab, but, as a newbie, I wasn't sure about the details on your "How To" up top.

That is why it is posted in the DVD-R for Advanced users. Newbie questions should be asked elsewhere.

This program works very well and I recommend it for making back ups of episode discs like Sopranos, Simpsons, etc. Two disadvantages that I noticed are the long encode times, and noticable quality reduction(at least it was to me). If they patch the long encoding I would use this for most backups but right now Dvd2one is better for copying to a single DVD-/+R

First off, I would love to see that rebate because they are selling the program for $20. So I think that's a bit far fetched.
SECOND: YOU MUST RIP THE WHOLE DVD (FILE MODE) NOT JUST THE USUAL STUFF (A few VOB's and an IFO file) in order for Instant Copy to find your file after you have ripped it.
I beleive on the DVD2One forums someone posted a way to convert the proprietary file format of instant copy into regualr vobs and such. If I remember it was fairly easy.
Lastly, DVDXCopy is a joke. That company has not made a product worth buying. They make money off of people who just don't know any better, ie the guy who goes to best buy and spends $3000 on a compaq or something.

dirtynbl is correct about everything needing to be ripped, just as I explained in my quick tutorial
"I used DVD Decrypter in File mode to extract everything on the disc (not just the movie pgcs, etc.)"
The coupon probably drops the price down to $25 or something from $45 so as CompUSA gets their cut while DVD2One gets theirs also (I haven't seen a coupon though).

GBHISME, I will try DVD Decrypter, Thanks! I use that program when smart ripper does not work or takes too long looking for a key. I did find a rebate on line and sent it in. I got the software at Comp USA for $49.99 US so with the rebate (if I get it) it will be $29.99. I think the rebate is nice because they released a program that has a bug they knew about when beta testing. I will keep an eye out for an update. As far as the encoding time is concerned, I have a P4 2.5GHz running 512MB PC1066 Rambus with 2 80GB 7200RPM ATA133 Maxtor Raid stripping array all on a Asus P4T533 main board and Pinnacle instant copy can compress a 8GB DVD in 2.5 Hours, that?s not so bad. DVD2One can rip through the same DVD in about 10min! Perhaps some reverse engineering is in order here for pinnacle OOPS! Did I say that? NOoooo! Good work DVD2One! Good Work Pinnacle! Lets have lunch! >;o)

DJ, I also DID use smart ripper for most of my DVD's, but I began noticing that some DVD's with scratches wouldnt always copy too well. I mean minor scratches mind you, and not these nail-driven canals! Anyhow I think you will be pleased with DVD Decrypter, and as for the encode times, I sacrifice this to keep the menus, and features intact. I am not quite as fortunate as you with my hardware, but it still takes me around 3 hours, sometimes a tad bit longer. Peace.

Instanst cd in good but dvd95copy in my humble opinion is better, plus it encodes in half the time.
I did Pearl Harbour at the weekend in 2.5 hours (excluding burning).

dj81462 Thanks! I will download that patch tonight and see how it works. I just backed up I Spy, its wide and full screen and still looks good on a normal TV. With my HD TV I can notice some artifacts in the compression but only if I am right up on the screen LOL! Pinnacle instant copy is great! I think I am going to get DVD95COPY as I here it is faster than pinnacles software but only by like 30 min. or so. Also Pinnacle instant copy made a perfect backup of GTA 3 for PS2 when record now max reported a disk read error. I have noticed that using toothpaste (Colgate) to polish damaged CDs and DVDs actually works on disks that have read errors! The trick is not to wash off the toothpaste after polishing just make sure you buff off the excess so the disk looks shiny. I was actually able to make good backups of 2 discs I have that I had originally thought were lost for good! (so much for spending $50us on a CD buffer!)

Veritas RecordNow came with the HP300i DVDR+ combo I just purchased. I have tried to make back ups of my store bought DVDs and never succeded. When using my DVD-rom as the source it always gives me a message that the disc is dirty and I need to clean it. When using the 300i it won't continue giving me a message of a DLA problem. I am new to making backups of DVDs. I have everyone of my music CDs stored and only use a backup copy. With 3 kids and multiple units I want to protect my DVD collection from damage also. I have been looking at other programs and see that there seems to be some drawback to them all. Can I get the Veritas RecordNow to do what I want? Is there another program I need to look at? DVDXCOPY? Instant Copy? I have several hundred music CDs that are backuped and stored. My DVD collection is growing. Can you help with info that I can use to figure out how to protect & store my original DVDs as well. Thanks for your input.

CaptCosmo ? The fastest way to copy DVDs is to copy just the movie and no menus or features. To do this you need 2 programs ?Smart Ripper? and ?DVD2One?. If you search enough on the net you can find both for free. Start with Smart ripper; if running Win XP and you get a CD Lock error just open a DVD player like Power DVD for a few seconds to unlock the drive then start Smart Ripper again. Select Files tab on the main screen and don?t forget to check the .IFO file for the movie, not just the VOB files as DVD2One will also need the IFO file. Now select a location to save the data and select Start. Once finished close Smart Ripper and open DVD2One. Select the source (where Smart Ripper saved the data from the DVD) and a destination (DVD2One will make a VIDEO_TS folder here with the new compressed DVD info). Click next and wait about 5-10 min depending how large the source file is. Once finished close DVD2one and open Record now Max. Select Data disk and select the VIDEO_TS folder that DVD2One made. Burn the DVD and you got a great quality back up your kids can chew to bits with no worries.
If you want to back up the menus and extra content you need 2 programs; ?Smart Ripper? and Pinnacle Instant Copy. Start with Smart ripper; if running Win XP and you get a CD Lock error just open a DVD player like Power DVD for a few seconds to unlock the drive then start Smart Ripper again. Select the backup tab and a destination for the files. Select Start, once finished close Smart Ripper and open Instant copy. For the Source double click the hard drive and select the directory where Smart Ripper saved the DVD data. For destination select your DVD burner. Select Start and wait about 2 hours, Depending on how many extra features there are and the size of the DVD. Once complete Instant copy will burn the DVD and you are done, once again the little tikes can sink their teeth into your copy with no worries.
Hope this helped ya!

I have tried Pinnacles Instant Copy and it is definitely better than DVD X Copy. Especially putting a DVD-9 movie into a DVD-5. I use DVD Decrypter and IFO Edit in the past but was stuck putting DVD-9 movies into two DVD-5 disc because it exceeded 4.4 Gigs of space. But with Instant Copy as the third software, it was worth it.

Try:
Smartripper
DVD2One (DVD-9 to DVD-5)
Nero
1hr 40 - 2hrs (if compressing is needed)
No warnings/notices...
Just an alternative idea

i have a vocabalaree. its really gargantous.
i say not to use nero because a lot of dvd players have problems playing dvds made in nero. that's why i recommend using something else. read the dvd2one site and tons of other pages reagrding this issue. if nero works for you fine. it's just not the best there is. all i'm saying.

janderson,
Is that DVD Encrypter or DVD Decrypter ?
After using DVD Decrypter which created the VIDEO_TS folder, launch Instant Copy and select your HD as the source and your HD again as the destination ( just in case something go's wrong during the burning process ).
Click "Start" and open the VIDEO_TS folder( source Image).
Select the VIDEO_TS.IFO and find a place were you can enter a name and save the DVD image you are going to create. That's it. Then the long wait.
After image is created do same process again:
Source > Image ( created )
Destination > Your DVD Burner
