Set this to automatic as opposed to DVD-ROM?

I did as you said and burned a DVD. I checked the properties of the disc (XP PRO) and it said UDF just like all my other discs. How can I check this disc to see if it's different now? Is it even possible?

My Mom is out of state and want to send her a disc but want to be sure before mailing it. (+R won't work on her old players)

((Here's how to book type using Nero Express))

03) click on "Options", then onb "Book Type Settings", set to "Automatic" and click "OK", then "Exit" out. That's it... easy as sipping on some Corona. Again, now every time when you burn, Nero will automatically change your DVD+R into a DVD-ROM in prior to the actual burning process.

Basically, you only need to set the "book type setting" on Nero once. So, if you book type it with Nero Burning Rom already then you don't need to do it again on Nero Express or vice versa.

Nero info tool says it's still DVD+R.

I just dl this QSuite and installed for my BenQ 1640.

I'll try another burn :)

I used dvdinfopro and this is what it tells me:

My booktyped benq backups:
Media Information
Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID YUDEN000T02
Media Product Revision Number 00h
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name CINDERELLA
Application id
Implementation id AHEAD Nero
Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 10/14/2005 17:37:27
Format Capacity 4.01GB(4.31GB)
Book Type DVD-ROM
Media Type DVD+R
Manufacturer Rated Speed 8.0x 11080KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 2013EFh
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

This is what it tells me on last years backups with my khypermedia+8x,not booktyped:

Media Information
Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID RICOHJPNR01
Media Product Revision Number 02h
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name New
Application id
Implementation id AHEAD Nero
Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 11/13/2004 18:11:39
Format Capacity 4.06GB(4.36GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Manufacturer Rated Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 207C0Fh
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

Notice where it says Book Type and Media Type.

Neroinfotool also told me both backups were dvd +r,weird?

Edit: Dvdidentifier also has same results as dvdinfopro, but nero still recognizes both discs as dvd+r?

Thanks for the reply saugmon, the reason I asked is because my Sony DVP-NS 700 still won't read these discs. It's not a big deal for me because I just play Cd's on the system that uses this player but the greater worry is that this is much to do about nothing in regard to book-typing making these discs play in more DVD players.

I guess I could see if -R discs will work for my Mom since my new BenQ 1640 can burn those when my late Khypermedia didn't.

anyone know anything about booktyping on matshita burners? when burning with dvd decryper on all dvd types, they never play on any dvd player except my computer. booktyping seems like my only other option then, does it not?

Quite likely your mom's player did not like the plus format from your other burner but it may play that plus format from a different burner?.This benq 1640,being a different burner, may be able to play those plus backups on her player. I've encountered it many times myself. I had an apex that didn't recognize the backups from my plus format khypermedia +8x. Benq 1620 took care of that.I've had 2 other burners and same applied, that apex would play the dash from an EMPA drive and the plus from an HP drive, but not the opposite formats off those 2 burners.

Always use quality media. Some of the cheaper MID coded media can cause backup playback recognition and playing issues.

Here's some info on your Sony Dvp ns-700:
(+R won't work on her old players)

You could always try a batch of dash, and send your mom a copy of your dvd on both the plus and dash backups?

csmeatwad: Not sure is Matshita drives can booktype.Likely they don't have the bitsetting capability to booktype.

I tried to change my booktype like this giude said but DVD Decrypter does not give an option to change to DVD-ROM. Is there a utility that can force a change on booktype?
