Don't buy a cheapy power supply! You could end up frying your MOBO & CPU. Buy a decent make. It will be worth it in the long run....

Just to complicate things with the whole power supply issue, having a great big number isn't everything. A lot of it depends upon what sort of current it can deliver on the various voltage lines. P=IV (Power = Current x Voltage). I run a Radeon 9800XT Pro and Athlon64 3200+ in a Shuttle XPC box for example. It only has a 230W power supply in it, and I haven't had a worry in the world in the last 18 months or so of having it.
I'm not saying go out an buy a cheap power supply by any means. What I am saying is that you need to be aware of how much current is delivered upon each line: this is broken down on a sticker on your power supply. A cheap power supply will deliver a massive amount of current on the 12V line, giving it a huge power rating, but the real important one is the 5V line.
Should be able to google some good info on the topic if you're interested.

yea it will run but you will get better proformance with the right power supply.your video card isnt working at full proformance becuse that card needs at least 300 watts to run efficiant plus you need to supply power to the rest of your components which is about 100 watts more.there is no way that shuttle is running right ,but thats your preference.what may happen,it might take 2 years but youll ruin that whole system cause its not powered right.there are specs to follow for a reason, maybe im stupid but maybe i like to follow directions so i dont have a pile of scrap in my room[lol]if i were you id listen to the people that tested and produced this video card but thats just me ,i guess, rather then take a stupid chance that it might be fine and dandy

Ok so you not willing to pay $150 for a good quality psu, so go buy a cheap no name psu sit back & relax and wait for it to take out your harddrive , memory and a few other things when it goes bang..... Seriously if you want a pc thats stable when you upgrade components then the first thing you should do is buy a quality PSU, whats the point in building or upgrading you pc if your PSU isn't up to scratch , it'll just lead to system crashes or worse ......sometimes you get lucky like OzMick and sometimes you don't like sammorris ...you have access to the internet so do some research on PSU's and the role they play in the pc ;)
p.s whats wrong with buying on line ?

You weren't really getting the point of my message rugmuncher, I was trying to say that the total wattage number isn't what people should be focusing on. It is more important to have a psu that can deliver the correct current on the required line (usually 5V), and have a psu that is well built in terms of componentry. 600W may sound fantastic, but if some dodgy company quietly states that it delivers 40 amps down the 12V line you're as good off as getting a cheap 300W. They bump up the 12V line number so they can stick a bigger wattage tag on the unit.

thats funny.spend the money build a new pc,yea right[lol]if i were you id save enough money to buy a 6800gt of a 850 radeon.then i would get a good 500 watt power supply.i did what your doing now i have 4 vido cards plus 2 old voodoo cards,3 sound cards plus the x-fi i just bought, got a couple of power supplies laying around,it suxs cause i wanted to upgrade everytime a game wouldnt play right[lol]so i save my money and built a pc that should go the distance for a while i hope[lol]pcs sux for that reason but the graphics are always better on a pc.played the new xbox360 today, what a hunk of garbage, game keep freezing, skins would fall off charector then you would see wireframe or a solid blue color.what junk
