Hello Im Just Wondering If I Can Put A Radeon 9800 Pro On My computer.
I have a p4 3.0Ghz
512mb of ram
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200(Want To Switch To a radeon)
A SIS Motherboard
can you please tell me if i can put a radeon in

all you need to be concerned about is your mobo. the other specs don't really matter. you should check your mobo manual to see what type of video slot it has and then check the specs of the card to make sure it supports it.

You need to find out if your mobo has a PCI or AGP graphics card slot , you should be able to do this by looking at the mobo each component slot should be named , so the graphics card slot should be tagged either PCI or AGP .....

check on your motherboard for some white bold printing usually between 2 expansion slots that says asus p4s533-mx or ecs p4vxasd2+ or something like that as sis does not make motherboards just chipsets. is your computer a clone or a name brand as in dell, hp/compaq or what? if so a namebrand, what is the make & model# of it?

Just googled the mobo mmodel number GA-8S648FX-RZ , and it shows that your mobo has a AGP graphics card slot
It's the brown one next to the 5 white PCI slots ... so your Radeon 9800pro will fit in AGP format .......

The 256mb would be a better choice over the 128mb 9800pro , how much is the 9800pro compared to a Nvidia 6600GT 128mb in your part of the world ? .....

the 256mb has better memory on the board which is called ram.nvidia has better card then 98 pro.that is an older card and for games like fear and battlefield 2 it may not do the job.look at the g-force 6800 gts [nvidia ]they run those games fine,but as always,when you add a video card you always have to look at your power supply to see if you need more watts to run it.a good video card requires 300 watts to run card then you need more wattage to run the rest of the components.agp you can get away with a 450 watt power supply[im talking when you get into higher end agp cards]hope this helped you

I would have gone for a 6800 rather than a 9800. I just think that Nvidia has far superior driver support. The few extra pounds would go a long way.
I have 6800LEs in both my PCs. Both are Gainward, both have Riva tuned to 16 pixel pipelines & 5 vertex shaders. Then again, a 7800 would be a better card to get. You only limitation is money!

a gts is out of my range of price and a radeon would suit me.. a gts would be for a very serious gamer. and how would i find out how much i power i can withstand?

somtimes you can look at the back of power supply.i took mine out theres a stamp that tells you how many watts it is

call the company that made it.they will tell you the specs.also you might be lazy but ill tell you ,if you go buy a video card and dont have the correct power supply it wont even run right.like a waste of money.thats whats the worst thing about pc you can never just buy one thing when you upgrade its always several.good luck man peace

yea man,pretty low ps probably have to change that too.i was just reading posts say you need at least 400 watt power supply get 500 watt to be safe.thats why i hate upgradeing always cost more money...lol
