Hi qid. There is a newer firmware VRS3 for your burner that is available at the link below, so download and flash:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2101

DVD Identifier indicates the burned disk was not booktyped as DVD-ROM:

Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [DVD+R DL] (see no change in type)

Here's a link to some Liteon utilities:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441

Scroll down and find the "Booktype Utility" and then download and run to change the booktypes for +R DVD5 to DVD-ROM and +R DVD9 to DVD-ROM.

Make sure your Nero is up to date as well. Otherwise you probably won't get good results. You might try ImgBurn instead of DVD Decrypter. It's supposed to handle layer breaks well although I've never tested it myself. Have you tried allowing Nero to do the burn?

Hi Leee211 and qid,

First of all to Leee211's question. I haven't tried using DVD43 or AnyDVD, so I can't really say what is better. I've only ever used DVD Decrypter and Nero 7 pro, which works fine for me :)

qid,
Have you tried copying the files to your comp, not the ISO image. I've tried to do the whole ISO thing before, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Try and get Nero 7. It comes up with a menu sort of thing when you run it. Go to 'DVD copy' then when that appears, on the bottom of the window will be a Nero Rom button. Click that (looks like old Nero now), then go to File>>New choose 'DVD-Video', close the DVD-copy window in background, then add the video_ts files from your computer into the video_ts file on Nero. Then away you go.

It's really good for layer breaks in DL media and automatically book tpes to DVD-ROM for you. Make sure your discs are DVD+R DL (verbatim works well). DVD-R DL discs cause too many problems at present. And as laddyboy said, update your firmware for your burner. :) Let us know how it goes.

laddyboy,

Thanks for the info on the discs. I went to the comptuer fair on the weekend and found a guy that sells Verbatim DVD+R DL discs for $5.50. I'll check out those places you mentioned :) They are very cheap!

I think this thread is a great guide for DVD+R DL burning. Do you think I should change the name of it? How about "Information on DVD DL Burning"

There seems to be some threads popping up with the same problems that are most likely fully answered in here. :)

I created ISO image using Nero Burning ROM and then used DVD Decrypter
I too have Nero 7 and still would not use it to do DL. If you are using Decrypter rip the image in iso with that program. It will creat a smal meta file MDS this is the file you open and use to burn your image. It contains the layer break information.

Thanks guys.

I never tried Nero 7 for DL - my experience with 6 was nightmare. Though I got Nero 7 now but was scared to do it. But I'll give that one a shot.

So far this is what I have tried:
1. Used Decrypter (File mode) to rip the entire DVD and Nero 6 to burn those files. (DVD gets detected in standalone player but doesn't go anywhere).

2. Created ISO using Nero 7 and burned using Decrypter (Same result).

3. I don't have those orignal DVDs any more but have those files.

Is there a way to know what my DVDRW drive really is? NEC, Richo, etc,.

Use Decrypter to rip in iso read mode and then open your MDS file and then burn in iso write mode. Here is a guide

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Copying%20a%20Dual%20Layer%20DVD%...

You need an exact image of the file, and the MDS will contain the layer transition and Decrypter will put it in the right place. Burn at 2.4X. If your burner booktypes to -R then do it. Also, some older players have problems reading DL disks, make sure yours is compatible.

qid, as I pointed out above, your burned DL disk is not showing up as booktyped as DVD-ROM but as DVD +R DL, hence the probable need for activating booktyping on your burner with the utility suggested.

Thanks laddyboy, I got your point but not sure which utility should I download as I don't see my drive in that list... will appreciate all your help and support for this... Can you figure our what is my drive in real - is it Lite-On, NEC, Richo, etc.,

Here is what I found on that site: "Unfortunately, none of LiteOn's slimline drives (internal laptop drives) currently support bitsetting."

I just tried burning the disk with Nero 7.0.0.0 and marked that it didn't set it to DVD-Rom like it does for single layer (4.7) disks. So one more fried...

Thanks a bunch...

qid, it's a Liteon drive. The first link in one of my posts above takes you directly to the firmware page for your burner. In the same post is a link to Liteon's booktype setting utility. It's simply called "Booktype Utility."

Thanks, I just downloaded the firmware and the utility.

I finished updating the firmware and now it is VRS3 instead of VRS2.

Now I'll try to use the Booktype Utility and try to set it to DVD-ROM - is that all that I should do and try to burn new disk using NERO 7?

Thanks...

Well I tried pressing everything on the DVD Controller but was no good - the disk got detected but then it was making all sort of noise inside the player. All the buttons were kind of locked. But thanks anyways...

I updated the firmware. I got booktype utility and set it to DVD-ROM. Used the ImgBurn and the working disk was produced. Thanks once again...
