Richaayy you say Microsoft and Free? but can I bring you to the perfect example of Microsoft compensating for those people who bought the XBox when it first came out. In England the Xbox was 300pound but Microsoft found this price to be to expensive so two months down the line they set the price as 200 pound. Microsoft gave those who bought the console for 300 pound 2 free games of thier choice. I think this very good of any company and I cant remember Sony or Nintendo doing anything like this for any problems that occured on thier console's. Then there was also the power cable which they gave for free to those with a xbox.
I think Microsoft have somthing up thier sleeves because they wouldnt be that stupid to release a piece of hardware if it was to cause such an issue. I think that they will either upgrade the console for those who bought it before HD-DVD or give them a attachment for free, but that is only if DVD9 does appear to be a problem of which I dont think it will.
I think the problem lays in blue ray and will follow the root of beta max as gallagher suggests.

M8 microsoft are more likely to give free stuff than any other company they've done it in the past with the xbox those who got the console at 300 pound without any games recieved free games when the price dropped to 200. I remember with nintendo when I was quite little and the new game boy pocket came out I got real excited, I bought one almost immediatly with my pocket money then a few months down the line game boy colour came out. The pocket was already out of date and some of the games I wanted would only play on the colour, I couldn't believe it my handheld which I spent all my money on was out of date after a few months! I wrote to nintendo but recieved zilch. The same goes for when my little bro bought the advance, surely this wouldn't go out of date so soon? ahhh w8, nintendo realise its hard to see the screen so f*&@ all those who bought the original advance and we'll bring out the sp with a backlight.

I cant remember that, are you sure your right? But does it really matter if they where made by M$ or not? I cant remember Sony or Nintendo doing anything like that and its proof that if it came to it M$ is most likely to upgrade peoples consoles to HD-DVD.

Dont worry eureka21. these guys are working you up. When I was talking about HD-DVD I was saying it as a suggestion to what Microsoft could do but the truth is they wont do it. This is becuase there is nothing wrong with DVD9 but those who want to buy a PS3 want somthing to put the 360 down with and so thier useing blue ray as a form of cussing the 360 but in truth it means nothing special. Otherwise I wouldnt be buying the 360 and I will be buying it on Launch so it will be the DVD9 just like the rest of the 360's over the next 5 years or so.

zelda64-alright, so they won't be making a external HD DVD drive?....and yeah i'm fine with the DVD9, i mean if the game is 2 or 3 discs you only have to change them once you beat everything on hte 1st disc.

OO, i dont know if it was this thread, but i read somthing about compressing.
Even the ps2 and xbox games were compressed. They still turned out to be a little bit smaller. So if gta was to be compressed right now, it would be 7.5 gb. You even have the compress option on windows. You put somthing in a compressed foler, and the file decreases.
You can decrease it by 50%, but it wont be that graphically well or that good in sound. Technology is'nt that high yett. 360 would of had blueray, if sony was'nt to own it. If you compress by 50% at the technology m$ has right now, it would be very distorted. And by the way, the developers for GTA, isnt m$, so they wouldnt know how to compress that much, if they can.
Ever noticed that when you download a rom for n64, or gba or an isos for psx &2, it's always in compressed folders? Try this, get a huge file, creat a compress foleer and put the file in there. Check how much it decreased.
If M$ can compress that much, that means every M$ program would only be soo little. Which they arnt, look at m$ ant spyware, it's a huge file.

I would have to disagree with Microsoft (if having the opption) taking Blue Ray. If that was the case then wouldnt they have least installed the HD-DVD drive? I think this disc storage thing is blown out of proportion. Again Sony may have the upper hand in terms of disc storage but at what cost? Manafaturing is expensive, it is one of a kind format, it's hard and costly to transfer data to the disc. If disc capasity size was such an issue then wouldnt the Nintendo Game cube be struggling right now with its 1.5gb disc's? And wouldnt the Nintendo Revolution have HD-DVD?

I seriosly have no clue about the gamecube, in my oppinion, i think it is because of the disk they use. Infact, nintendoes games arnt that long in my oppinion. If you think of it, what i said above, gc games should be 2-3 gb long but they compressed it to 1.5gb.

My little brother has Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and I have no issue with swapping the discs over because its a awsome remake of one of my all time favourite games. The game is probably the same in size and length as Metal Gear 2 Sons of Liberty and it takes up two GC discs. That means it cant be any bigger than 3gb. So if last generation games could be done that way then why not 360? I dont see this disc issue as an issue at all.

ZElda, i didnt say that, they probably are, but the compressing is'nt goign to be that small, they cant compress the whole game by 100%, not by 50%, or it will be distorted. Xbox360 will probably do this, but as i sadi gta is currently 9 gb, if ocmpressed it will be 7.5 gb the least, and that they are still working on gta, means that its going ot be more than one disk.

Yes I know there might be a chance that GTA might be on more than one disc but if it is the case it will be one of few games to take up more than one disc. The other point is who care's? In the game you will have to change the disc once, so what. Everyone wastes thier time looking at loading screens so there is no difference except you are actualy opening the tray to put in the next disc. but again big deal.
Off the subject quickly, do you know all or most of the PS3 games in Sony's 170 game development? I know most of the 360 games in thier 170 game development and there are quite a few excellent titles. You may ask 'what titles?' because half of them are new but from watching and reading on these new games I see true potential. It is true that I will have to wait for PS3 in January to see what it's got on offer but 360 will be hard to beat. That is why I dont care about changing a disc because the exclusive games are looking like they will be very good which takes priority over a 50gb disc.

Really? They said that they are not sure. Any ways, ff is expacted to be very good, as know with every gen of consols. frag, ff x beat halo in sales. FF is like the halo of ps3. Just that ff sells more. I think that ff 12 & 13 for ps3 will be great games. Just how people expect halo 3 will be for xbox360. You cant tell without playing the game, you can only expect for now.

Final Fantasy is not my type of game. I do like Halo alot better but I think Halo sold more in Western countries compared to FF but overall FF sold more because of the Japanese.

I know this is completly off the subject but who has seen the in game footage of Fight Night round 3 on the 360? It looks just as good (if not better) than the e3 technical demonstration for the PS3.
Who has also seen the new game developed by Capcom coming to the 360 aswell? its called 'Lost Planet Extreem Conditions' it looks like it will be a surperb game. Has anyone been keeping up to track with 'Dark Sector'? If anyone has read about it and watched the trailer it looks very good from when I last saw it at E3. Unfortunatly it's just been said it wont be out until Q3 2007! It's coming to both the 360 and PS3.
You can check out this stuff at gamespot http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/index.html

Guys, read what I said. Microsoft has already stated that they will NOT release games in HDDVD. The HDDVD will only be for videos. They are sticking to DVD for the games.
And NO they are not going to "fix" yours for free. That's like saying the original Xbox buyers should have gotten a free upgrade everytime they came out with a better version or upgrade or harddrive, etc.

Yes it is true what Micrsoft have said that if and when they are to release a HD-DVD version of the 360 it will only be for playing HD-DVD films and not HD-DVD games. With regards to Microsoft not giving an upgrade free to those who would have bought the 360 before it's upgrade we will have to see what Microsoft decide to do. I am not sure if Microsoft will give it for free (or a discount) just like you are not sure with your statement.
Let's take a look at Microsofts track record. First off I would just like to say that the HD-DVD upgrade is not essential which is why Micrsoft might not do it for free. Secondly I can see where your coming from gallagher it's like saying why not give the 360 free to those who bought the xbox because its a better version so its a bit unfair to those who bought the xbox. However you cant look apon it like that. The reason is that Microsoft did give two free games to those that first bought the xbox when the price was lowered (Nintendo did not do this with the N64 when it was released for a high price but then lowered 2-3 months down the line). Another is Microsoft supplied those who bought a xbox when it first came out a free imporved version of the power cable 2-3 years after the xbox's release. Finaly my own personal experiance when I bought a laptop for Uni it had Windows millenium installed but 6 months down the line Windows XP was to be released, so I had a voucher with the laptop for a 50% discount on Windows XP.
Now this doesnt prove that Microsoft will definatly give the free or discounted upgrade but what it does prove is that there is a high chance that they will.

That is not universal. I biought the Xbox at 199 in the US and about two months later it finally went down to the 149. Did I get a free game? Of course not. So maybe in Britain they did this, but not in the US. I can guarantee you they will not upgrade the millions and millions of 360's that are not HDDVD compatible. It was your choice to buy one early and MS specifically said they were looking into adding HDDVD movie abilities later on.
