hi. i'm afraid i don't do sometimes work/sometime doesn't. for me a burner either works or doesn't, consistently or not at all (of course provided you have ruled out ALL else). i had a trusty Sony DRU-700A burner that did like 2000+ burns, and it started playing silly beggars. i even blamed my top notch Verbatim media, then i realised the burner was throwing in the towel. once a Nero log's been checked/exorcised, the finger of blame usually lands on the burner..

Creakty I understand what you mean. But my burner is only a year old and it has not burned more that 60 DVD-R's.
I have 2 pcs (Pentium 4) at home. One is in my sister's room and one in my room.
I moved the burner to the pc in my room and thats were it worked.
Yeap I got you! :) I like cars!

Nice one with the championship there! The price of burners nowadays, I would get another and remove all doubt, unless your dad could borrow the burner from work for one night? Not sure his boss would go for that one though!

I realise the burner may be only 1 yr old, that is really no guarantee that it will be reliable.

That's what I was planning to do. My father has no bosses!! (he is the boss in the hospital! hehehehe). So he even said "we take this one and change it with the one you have at home" He does not use it to burn DVD movies anyway.
But I think I'll leave it here for a while. Burn a couple of DVD-R's and see what happens. What do you think?
Pulsar: maybe from faulty batch?

creaky you just jogged the old memory there.
i had the same prob about 6mths ago (come to think about it i do believe we spoke about it then as well) anyway could play and burn cd's no prob, when it came to seeing or burning dvd's, diddly squat.
that had received a bang and displaced the dvd laser. replaced the drive (cheaper to replace than realine) no prob's since . in fact the old one is sat here on the shelf stareing at me

Gurnard.
You're quite right!
If I see that it causes more loss. Ofcourse is cheaper to buy a new one than buying and wasting DVD-Rs.
Now that I think of it!!!
I recently moved back home (I was in England) and we had my sister's pc (with the dodgy burner). The thing is that I packed the pc tower and I sent it home through an airline. I made sure that is packed as safe as possible. But there is a possibility that it was mistreated (I mean the box) and got injured!
Probably this has caused something inside it because I have another indication.
There were times when I tried to burn and you now when you are on the Nero screen, where you choose the speed and so on...
I used to wait, because Nero was saying to me that the drive is not ready. And at the bottom (underneath the option of speed) there was a progress bar filling up.
I dont know whether you understand what I mean.
What does that mean? The drive is not ready?
And it was doing nothing...

The burner burned one DVD-R fine. The rest got wasted again.
It gave me the same errors in Nero 6.0.18.
I think the best solution is buying a new one.
Problem solved!
Take care and thanks again for everything!
