Reason I bring this up is that I've made around 25 dvd movie backups with OptoDisc, and I've had NO coasters. Food for thought that crap PS2 media doesn't necessarily mean crap dvd media, for those of us that may be attempting to do the same types of 'activities'.
ps2's are a lot more picky when it comes to reading disks,
the average dvd player will read just about anything you throw at it,even fried pancakes.....as long as they have no sugar/syrup on them

Yup. You could probably get away with throwing all the CMC Mag in the world at your DVD Player, and it'd play okay. I'm not advocating CMC Mag, it blows, noone in their right mind should use it. But if you want your PS2 to last, use quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. The quality dyes go easy on the laser, and as Hursty said the PS2 laser is a lot more finicky that a DVD Player's laser.

Once again, all of you, this insight is superb. As I said, most people have no idea that your average Free Coby DVD player will play nearly a burned pancake, while PS2 is extremely more picky.

Also, the point about better DVD media actually being better on the PS2 laser than the crappy media, is very great insight, I had no idea, I never even considered that plausibility, yet, it makes perfect sense.

As someone said, this could be a sticky for the top. Why even use 'lesser' media, when the advantages and avoidable headaches and wrongful permutations are so large, it's like process of elimination, except one is eliminating 99% of the processes right away.

Just my 2 cents from reading massive amounts of digest in 1 month.

There already is a sticky about "best media"... and in most posts you will see the more experienced members mention that using good quality media is better for your ps2 and more likely to not have problems booting/skipping etc.
