Maybe the person who ripped this game and put it up for downloading messed up along the ripping process. Maybe he tried to replace the original movies with blank .pss files as a result the movie will not start leaving you watching a blank screen (I'm speaking from experience. Just get a commercial copy and back that up. BUT REMEMBER OWN THE ORIGINAL TITLE OF THE GAME IF YOU LIKE IT!!!

Hey, I recently burned a PS2 .iso and the game loads fine on my modded PS2, but it appears as if it is a VHS with bad tracking. The sound is fine the video however looks like the tracking needs to be fixed. Is this a media problem. I am using Memorex 16x DVD-R media and I do not want to go out and buy different media if that is not the problem.

The memorex dvd's are the problem, they plain out don't work.
Get verb's or taiyo yuden's. Sorry that you have to buy more.

It looks like Verbatim is the way to go, but do I get DVD-R or DVD+R, which is best for PS2 games?

Ok, I went out and bought Verbatim 16x DVD-R at Best Buy, came home and burned my .iso again, and it has the same problem. The sound works perfect but the video looks like a VHS tape with bad tracking. I successfully backed up Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Disc 1 & 2 and also Kingdom Hearts 2. The game I am trying to backup that is not working is The Godfather. Any clues?

Yes, but your situation is much different than mine. your game did not even load after the Playstation 2 screen came up. My game loads and runs, the sound works perfect, it just looks like bad tracking. I can even play the game, just can't see too much because of the bad tracking look.

Well please provide more info about the way you burnt it, the media u used and all that stuff.
My suggestion (from this forum's exprience) is to burn the dvd @ the slowest burning rate as possible. Try that and let me know how it goes :)

I already said what media I used...
Verbatim 16x DVD-R, burned with DVD Decrypter.
Like I said, I have backed up 2 other games using the same method successfully, The Godfather is being stubborn.

Try using Nero or something. Wat speed did you burn them at?

I always burn at 2X, and like I said, DVD Decrypter successfully backed up two other games, so I do not think it is the burining software I am using.

UPDATE:
I just attempted to backup Tomb Raider: Legend and I have the same problem with it. Please someone help me, I'm wasting all my DVD-R's!
Info:
PSTwo SlimLine + Mod Chip
Verbatim 16x DVD-R
DVD Decryptor - at 2X
Successful Backups: Kingdom Hearts 2 & Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Unsuccessful Backups: The Godfather & Tomb Raider: Legend
Problem: Games loads and plays with perfect sound, but the video is screwed up. It looks like a VHS with bad tracking. Please help ASAP!

2x seems like too slow to burn PS2 games on 16X discs. Try 4x. Both Tomb Raider Legends and The Godfather work perfectly for me, burnt at 4x on 8x discs.

If that was the problem, then why would Kingdom Hearts 2 and MGS 3: Subsistence work perfectly? I'll try burning them at 4x ut I just don't think that is the problem, because I burned 2 other games flawlessly at 2x. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it!

If you search around this forum, I guarantee you will find your answer, but you don't need a modchip, you can use swap magic.

I just thought of something...could it be that my TV does not support PAL images? Would that make the game work fine except for the video looking like bad tracking?
